If you have no problem with the government recording and storing your general day-to-day online communications because you have nothing to hide, why would you have a problem with audio recording devices being installed in your house? They do in according the dictionary. But the connotations are very different. I'm not having a pop - maybe you aren't aware of them either. I only know because I noticed a lot of right wing commentators had started to choose that spelling and was interested as to why that might be. It was almost like it was being used as a pejorative.

 

Apparently to an Arabic speaker the word Muslim means a follower of Islam - where as Moslem means someone who is evil. A bit like ISIS or Daesh I suppose. There's an interesting article about it here.

They may well be but the two situations in the broader scheme of things are incomparable. I don't know of any group of Poles (or anyone "pretending" to be a Pole, Jew, homosexual, disabled, or ginger fleeing the Germans), entering other parts of mainland Europe, and then committing a repeated string of terrorist atrocities in the countries that offered them safety.

Errr............I think we are agreeing on a lot of things here. If you would care to do a search you will find that I was fully supportive of David Cameron's plan to take 20,000 from refugee camps where the correct vetting procedures could be applied and we would know that we were actually helping Syrians fleeing a war zone (rather than Tunisians and others planning cowardly attacks or other chancers looking for an easy life at the expense of the British taxpayer).

 

By the same token, I was completely against the actions of that fucking clown Merkel who threw open the doors and said welcome to hell. There's a lot of water to flow under the bridge yet with the one million or more so interlopers. Those of you who fear the emergence of an emboldened far right can thank Merkel for this. It is a natural consequence of her sheer lunacy prompted by residual guilt from WW2.

 

Obviously we agree on the Poles who bravely fought against the Nazis once they got out from under the jackboot and were able to settle in other countries including our own. Snide comments about not staying and fighting in your own country are below the belt IMO. They were quick to the fight as soon as they were in a position to do so.

Sympathy for those fleeing war is admirable but the thinking cap needs to go on before you rush headlong into trouble as Germany has. Cameron was right, Merkel was wrong. Simple as that.

 

It would never have come to this however if the interfering busybodies of the West had left well alone in Syria, Libya and Iraq. Yes there would have still been regular casualties but on a minute scale by comparison and we wouldn't even know about half of it.

Could it be that people have different ideas of what 'privacy' is?, and the potential problems we might face is we willingly diminish  (however gradually) our right to have private lives? Still, as others have pointed out, in these times I can see the justification, just about, for such observations and storage of data - and as long as the public can exercise their democratic right to change the current conditions in less risky times then I'm reasonably OK with it.  I also think it's reasonable to express concern over this point though as it definitely has the potential to be . . . ahem . . . misused.
