Lovely part of the world. Regularly take a run down to the borders of a weekend for something to do

I'm off to lindisfarne in a couple of weekends time. Always wanted to go since reading a book set there so though to would drive down.

Went a few years ago with the lads godmum and her lad.

Me and him went exploring the cliff sides leaving the ladies and my then 1yr old on the beach.

As for the uk being great with good weather we stayed on a site just outside Hartlepool and it was a cracking week. Even our trip into Middlesbrough was a belting day out.

Fuck me the weather must have been good if middlesborough seemed decent

A play on the transporter bridge and a look round the Anish Kupoor exhibition followed by a bit of shopping.

Twas a very pleasant day

Shame the castle is closed for refurb at th moment but rest of island is great. Beaches just north over the causeway over the dunes are stunning. A flagon of Meade for breakfast and a hearty walk over the dunes. Keep an eye on the tide tables to plan the best use of time. If you miss it there's always the owl centre.

If folk like Scotland then get yourself up to Orkney, it is simply stunning. The history of the place is unreal, it is looking likely to be the birthplace of 'modern' Britain in historians eyes. Kirkwall is a cracking night out too.

Would love to go.  Also where they make Highland Park but that's for another thread.

Once did Rio then Buenos Aires back to back

Way too hard

Once did a day trip to Uruguay just to say I'd done a day trip to Uruguay.

And the older I get, the less packing & unpacking I want to do - 2 bases is my max these days for a fortnight's holiday.

I spent 9 months upto may this year travelling and packing every few days became soul destroying. So much so we can home 4 months early

A lot to be said for two weeks in a hotel somewhere that's for sure

Did it loads in my 20's and early 30s but the last time wasn't as much fun and doubt I'd do it again.

That being said, I can't stand just sitting on a beach for 2 weeks.  Drives me mad.

A golf spa thingy in the Azures would be lovely :)

I'm looking forward to my travelling around starting at weekend. We have 4 days in Switzerland at the end which is plenty of time for a bit of relaxation, I will be bored with any more time. Packing and unpacking every day or 2 is no big deal if you plan it properly - done it a few times, love it

Every 2 days or so for 9 months though? You sure it wouldn't become an issue?

Don't get me wrong seeing all the different places and cultures now I look back on it was an unbelievable experience but at the time

About 3 months in it got right on my tits having To move every few days

That said home for 6 weeks now and bored out my skull and looking to fuck off again around xmas time for another few months if possible.

South America is calling my name!

Be careful in Colombia with a name like that

I think I will have a very pleasant time :-)

I'm jealous, mate - I'd love to do S America but always felt you'd need a basic grasp of Spanish to get by.  Folk I know who've done it seem to think so.

I did chew on some Coca leaves once - quite moreish and more perk than a double espresso

Haha brilliant

Yeah I've got a basic grasp of Spanish so should be fine.

Ok, Mrs Biggish hits 40 in November and looking at a 3 night break within a couple of hours flight, chance of weather being decent and a city which has plenty going on. Currently torn between Barcelona and Monte Carlo, done Rome and no interest in going anywhere near Madrid again.

Not really arsed about the price of things, just want decent bars/restaurants and enough going on.

Any other recommendations welcome.

Cheers

Monte is all right but can be done in an afternoon

I love Nice! You can base there and be in MC in half an hour on the train in one direction with Cannes half an hour the other way. Loads going on but I've never been in November

Other European cities I love include Florence, San Sebastián and Bordeaux - recommend them all highly

If you want a better chance of weather I'd look further south at Malaga or Seville - both beautiful places and you could potentially land on a decent football match for good measure
