jayjayoghani Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Hope you're not spending 4 days in Gibraltar. Worth seeing but it's tiny. St Michaels Caves are ace. Quote

jules_darby Posted July 9, 2017 Posted July 9, 2017 Just back from our trip down south and it was tremendous. Every day was absolutely superb. We were lucky we got the weather but it exceeded every expectation. Gonna do a week in UK every year alongside the normal trips abroad if we can. Belting country we live in Quote
captainmed Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 (edited) Just back from our trip down south and it was tremendous. Every day was absolutely superb. We were lucky we got the weather but it exceeded every expectation. Gonna do a week in UK every year alongside the normal trips abroad if we can. Belting country we live in Would never have another proper holiday in the UK. Weather is always a gamble, prices are extortionate relative to other countries and retail service is generally poor. On top of that most pubs are generally not kid friendly, or you have to be out for 7 or so latest. Each to their own. Edited July 10, 2017 by captainmed Quote
birch-chorley Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 (edited) I'd say food retail is generally excellent across the U.K. now So much choice available these days, they have to be decent to survive With regards weather though, that's your big gamble and it can make or break it, it's just so unpredictable! Edit.... I mean food retail in the touristy places like The Lakes, Cornwall etc Edited July 10, 2017 by birch-chorley Quote

Biggish Dave Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Summer is usually warm enough and if you ain't bothered about sweating your gonads off, the UK is great. Anything over 75f can fuck off for me so that rules UK in. Sure, I wouldn't like it to rain all the time but even if it did, I would still find plenty to do. Just like currys, I used to like them hotter 20 years ago, now I prefer mild Quote
Biggish Dave Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 I'm more Dupiaza down from Madras, not that much of a puff to go for Korma Quote

It wasn't out of choice to be honest I never considered it but my lad can't fly for another 6-8 weeks and we reallly wanted to take him on a break As I've said, we got really lucky with the weather but everywhere was kid friendly (except Rick stein's where we had to eat in the bar area with an under 3) and we saw some amazing places - we found something interesting to do every day for Junior and us adults too Suppose it depends what you want in a holiday really We'll not stop going abroad....but we'll add in UK breaks now too Quote
Salford Trotter Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 We got the Lanzarote bug last year and been back a couple of times since. My Mrs has just booked a studio apt on Airbnb and return flights for us both for a week in November £300 all in. You really can't go wrong with deals like that ???? Quote
Casino Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Except a pool I'm not sure what very young kids, like yours, get from foreign holidays It's just adults being selfish which is fair enough Not knocking parents who have worked all year and want a bit of sun but let's not kid ourselves we take under 6s abroad for them I certainly didn't:) Quote
jayjayoghani Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Had loads of good UK holidays, before I fucked off here like. Quote
radcliffe white Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 Been doing haven holidays in uk since kids was born They do exactly what it says on the tin with young kids, now getting older 8 & 10 will look at abroad next summer Quote
MickyD Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 Just (Monday) back from a week in Las Vegas. Fucking hell, it's hot! 115oF. I actually burned my feet through a pair of trainers! Stayed at Westgate. Quite a way off the bright lights of the Strip but the monorail made life easy. (If you're going, buy your monorail tickets on-line before you go.) Flew with Thomas Cook and have to say, the choice of films and episodes of TV shows was a bit limited (Unless you're 12!) so my advice would be to take a book/kindle with you.10 hours is along time.. Biggish Dave Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 That Tommy Cook flight is a killer, seats are crap Quote
MickyD Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 That Tommy Cook flight is a killer, seats are crap Fairly comfortable for the first half hour. I ended up sitting on that shitty little pillow they give you for the overnight flight back. Talking of overnight flight. Darkness only lasted about 3 hours when you're flying USA to UK. It's no wonder my head doesn't know what's happening. Stayed up last night until about half past midnight and was up and wide awake at half four. Quote
L/H White Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 we're doing manc - atlanta - vegas when we go next month 9 to atlanta, 2 hour stop, then 4 to vegas thankfully it's direct coming back Quote
jimmyjoojar Posted July 12, 2017 Posted July 12, 2017 I can never get a decent kip on a plane. The worst was when I did Manchester-Singapore-Cairns and only got a few hours interrupted sleep. Yesterday I saw a fella using one of these: Obviously he's a "massive pillow wanker", but I'm thinking despite looking the total cunt this might actually be the solution on my next long haul jaunt.
