Sweep Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 I've been to Turkey twice and really liked it. Much prefer Greece though if I'm honest Quote
Traf Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Greece is considerably more expensive than Turkey this summer Quote
Blondi Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 (edited) I have, lovely country. Lake Bled Ljubljana Piran Postijna caves All worth a visit. We hired a taxi driver for 3 days, who took us all over the west side of the country. Even went to Trieste and a trip into Croatia. Definitely want to visit again before it's too late Did you fly from Manchester? I seem to be struggling trying to find an airline that flies direct to Ljubljana from Manchester. I think Adria airlines might fly direct, but I'm not sure. Edited June 7, 2017 by Blondi Quote

tomski Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Don't touch the money  Could you not have done greece for the same price?  Or albaniz No basically. Resort looks nice though so will see Quote

I think Adria airlines might fly direct, but I'm not sure. It was 2006 & 2007 when I went. Flew from stansted using easyJet. Was a pain, but the only option then. Worth the effort though???? Quote
Widnes Two Hats Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 For me, if you avoid Marmaris, Turkey can be lovely  Dalyan for instance is gorgeous, Turgetries is great for families and Gumbet can also be fantastic Quote
Winchester White Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 Been to Turkey once, the hotel was brilliant and the staff just as good. Went into Bodrum one day, couldn't wait to get out of the fucking place. Quote

Snap. But Belek. Hotel was one of the best I've stayed in.  Actually, tell a lie, spent 2 weeks in Marmaris..... was 13 days too many!  And a few nights in Istanbul. Had a better beach than Marmaris! Quote
Widnes Two Hats Posted June 7, 2017 Posted June 7, 2017 I did Istanbul for my 30th, one of the best cities I've ever been to, utterly fantastic, so much to do that everybody needs to go there at least once in their life Quote

White on Tyne Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 I've read that Kalkan is a very nice place to go.https://kalkanturkey.com/about_kalkan/Agree. Kalkan nice but Kas further round the coast is even nicer IMO. Both are easy reach to Patara beach and gorge and canyons. Very cheap at moment. Fly to Dalaman or Antalya and hire a car. World heritage sites nearby. People are lovely and less mither than other Turkish "resorts". Quote
C86 Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 For 2018 I want to do three weeks somwhere, June/July. DOnlt want to lounge around on sunbed for three weeks. Thought of Oz/NZ but wrong time of year? Â Don't really fancy USA. Always fancied Japan. Â Any ideas. Quote
birch-chorley Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 (edited) Russia for the World Cup  Only joking of course  I'd suggest you reconsider North America, even if you look at something a bit different like Canada  Japan is high on my list also, apparently April is the best time to go (so I've heard)  Other than that I'd suggest driving round Europe, me and the Mrs spent a month doing it last summer and loved it. We did a week in Northern Italy, through the South of France into Spain (San Sebastian) then up the Atlantic coast of France home. I really would recommend it highly, we set off from Chorley at 6am and were in Brussels by mid afternoon, its easier than you'd think Edited June 8, 2017 by birch-chorley Quote

Nobster Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Might see you over there were going to Alsace region for a few days before heading down to the French Alps. Quote
Biggish Dave Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 We're not going to be far from there Nobster - starting off in Bacharach on 1st July then 2 nights in Baden-Baden Quote
MancWanderer Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Greece is considerably more expensive than Turkey this summer Currently in Paphos. Have to say it seems a lot more expensive than last year but then the exchange rate is shit on the euro Quote
MancWanderer Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Is Antalya OK? OK is about where I'd put it. Hotels are quite good but very big and very busy and full of Ruskies. Fuck all to do outside the hotels - didn't find any streets to go wandering around to find bars. Basically a long strip of concrete with themed resorts like The Titanic Quote
