Regarding Phoenix Nights, at the end of the live version wasn't Brian killed off? I assumed that was his way to stop people pestering him about a third series. At the end of the second series Den Perry admits to burning the club down, Jerry remains as licencee and Max and Paddy flee in a motor home.
