The pandemic must be paid for

I agree, and it will be. Just wait until Rishi starts calling the money back in, because he's going to have to at some point......

On that note

I know a couple of companies being audited by HMRC around their furlough schemes.

One of them has had a disgruntled former employee dob them after they found out the MD's son had suddenly appeared on the payroll (backdated) and they were claiming full beans for him.

Sister in law is on one of the teams and the penalties they can issue are pretty much unlimited.

If you've been dodgy, they'll find you, and they will fuck you hard.

And rightly so. A lot of people have taken the piss and I hope they throw the book at them and the bum them hard and dry

I know a company that was really taking the piss, and had everybody on furlough, but then had them in working. Anyway, from what I understand, they're currently being investigated, and absolutely everything is being looked at. Hopefully, all those who abused the system will get caught out

I’m all for getting those who have benefited from the handouts , whilst the rest of us cracked on regardless , and get them doing chores such as litter picking, helping to clean up flytips and stuff like that at weekends. Afterall they’ve all had a holiday at the taxpayers expense only fair they contribute in other ways to repay it.

we can all think of things in local communities that need doing so seems a perfect fit to me and equitable.

I suggested to some of my mates that those who have benefitted (both companies and individuals) could/should start to pay an extra 1p in the £1 in tax, for a period of time (to be defined by somebody more intelligent than me) so that it could start contributing back some of the money that they'd received..............a couple of my mates thought it was good idea, and a couple looked at me like I was Hitler 😗    -  I'm glad I didn't carry on and tell them how I also think we should be looking to sell off the NHS to recoup some money and let it fund itself and not get any Government coffers, we'd have the debt fully paid off in about 5 years 🙂

The Labour Party will ban you for life for smearing the name of the NHS

I take it that is your opinion and the Guardian's too ?

I just think its an excellent assessment of the daftness of what people define as Woke, esp when its used to shut down debate.

I raised the very idea of additional taxation for those who have had the freebies to repay it on here. Unsurprisingly a few of the usual suspects didn’t agree. To me it is fair and equitable or give them a reduced state pension when that time Comes and take it that way. But it would seem unjust that people have been sat around for several months doing fuck all and not have to pay for the perk in someway.

agree re nhs as well. And given I go private for most ailments I would suggest those using the nhs only should pay a premium for this as well in its current format. As again why should I be punished for being in a better position and not relying on sponging sorry taking from the public purse left right and centre.

You don't have to go private though.

When I had my tooth out a couple of weeks back, there was no charge- even though I pay for nhs treatment. I queried it, but the dentist said no its free!

Nice one health department- maybe it's by way of compensation for lockdown tooth loss. :)

No I don’t you’re right. Tbf I use the nhs for my dentistry which is usually nowt per year as we don’t pay for check ups here.

but for most things Medical I go private as I’ve no desire to wait for treatment. I pay for my private health care via BIK so I’m sure as shit going to use it.

I wouldn't be happy as such, but no arguments from me if I have to chuck a bit extra back via income tax.

Quite honestly, I expect we'll see a lot of stories emerging of furlough scams, SiL has already said they are finding a lot of examples of companies volunteering to pay it back before they get sussed.

The fall out from Covid is going to be massive and painfully long-winded.

And so you should!

Just been watching a little bit of Hancock in the debate about future legislation, and recovery from the pandemic.

Seems there is some ideological opposition to utilising the services of private medical facilities to overcome backlogs caused by the pandemic- you can guess where those individuals were seated.

Thankfully, we're using whatever means are at our disposal.

Further to my post above, it was good to see Damien Green once again talk about putting a small increase on NI to pay for modernisation of care sector. In general I'd guess most folk would be happy to pay a little more.

Well, yes

It'd be better still if the govt wasn't still kicking the can down the road

Give them a chance. They've only been in power for 10 years

They're not. Legislating this term.

If they delay it again, they'll be fooked and will have missed a great opportunity to raise a tax with a large level of support.

Of course you will disagree and bitch, so we'll have to wait and see.
