Tbf the number are I assume from the Leeds BS which is what comes up with a quick google. There are England only so about 250k in England , not sure for rest of the UK.

I know life is not that simple but any property developer says buy 'the worst house on the best street' , whilst I know these won't all be in great areas buying a property and then developing it is massively cheaper usually than building from scratch when you need all the utilities sorting. Lots of Housing Associations have their own development arm , so ask them to do the work and as part of the deal train youngsters from the area in the skills needed on site.

You could ask private companies, would Smiffs company get involved in something like this or have centralised national board delivering. This could start tomorrow. Along with a sensible debate about converted unused office space into something to help solve the challenge. This shit is what annoys me most about the current Tories, with an 80 seat majority they could have started all this, creating jobs and income instead they have disappeared up their own arseholes and delivered more three word slogans than they have actual policies.
Boris even went to 4 words 'high wage high skills' but no training plan no delivery plan the useless Bumblecunt shyster.

There's 2 big fuck off million quid plus houses a short walk from my house that have been empty for the past 10 years.

God knows who can afford to just walk away from them and leave them to rot.

England is known as "the laundromat" for corrupt foreign oligarchs.

There's loads of normal sized 3 bed family homes near me that are worth over a million. There's a problem right there.

I

Indeed, it's getting that way round here, not quite that bad yet, but some of the new builds going up round here are starting at c£650K/£700K for a 3-bed semi-detached.

Its utterly bonkers, and long may it continue 🙂

Fuck that, I want my kids to be able to afford a house, not still be at ours in their mid 30's.

They'll be able to afford them 35 and 40 year mortgages will become the norm, not the 25 years that we used to do

If infation and mortagages carry on the way they are I don't think so. Imagine the almighty rants when house prices drop, and folk who have been getting seemigly richer by not doing very much suddenly see their nest egg vanish.

I don't think it'll be that bad but affordable housing in the South East esp is a real probem, and a really big problemfor the Tories as now their normal voters are getting bothered that their kids can't get on the ladder in their home towns.

They might have to move North...

something will definitely have to give, I know a lot round here now on first time mortgages are getting "help to buy" and also pairing that with 35 and 40 year mortgages.

I am of course only joking when I say "long may it continue" as you'd think it's pretty much unsustainable. I'm more than happy for house prices to stay where they are

Although, every time they chuck a load of new builds up, they seem to sell pretty quickly. I suspect the one's they're just building on the edge of our village may take a while to fully sell, but over 50% of them have gone "off plan" already I'm hearing - my mate put his 1970's 3 bed semi up for sale last Thursday and got a full asking price offer over the weekend from a young couple on a first time buy (£485K).

If folk do move North, and it's happening, as we're getting people moving here from North London, St Albans etc, then all it'll do is slowly drive the price of property up further up the country. I don't know if that means eventually London/South East prices dip, but I doubt they will by very much

Don't think we'll solve the housing crisis unless we can somehow make high rises somehow seem desirable.

Surely there's an architect out there that can crack that cookie? Maybe have an in house gym? Green spaces on the roof?  Communal swimming pools? God knows. But got to be worth a shot.

There's just not enough floorspace to build the amount of houses we realistically need.

That’s pretty much the norm in a lot of new high rises in Manchester, but they’re not affordable for the majority.

* Stop immigration

* Restrict everyone to 2 children

* Allow house prices to double

* Bring Boris Back

* Allow Celtic and Rangers into the English league

* No Trans or similar slice & dice folk

* Double the pension

* Jail anyone who says the words "Climate Change" in public

Utopia, lads.

We've loads of space. Less than 10% is built on.

If we want to go down that route or not is another debate.

We need to open up more of the greenbelt to build on. Set up completely new towns like Milton Keynes and Camborne, that are well spread out and purpose built, so they have all the amenities required to be "self sufficient" such as adequate schooling, decent transport links, a hospital etc

It'll take a couple of decades, but it can be done

Much of the remaining 90% can’t or won’t be built on.

Why not use town centres

Im not arsed if toby farquarhson gets an estate built in his back garden, but im sure theres plenty opportunities without green belt

Might require some population shift, but thats no bad thing

Town centre parking is always going to be an issue, especially for 2,3 or 4 car families, but I agree, there will potentially be plenty of office blocks that could be converted I'd have thought

They’ll sell their cars and have everything on their doorstep. Win win
