Busybodies knocking on doors asking how the local area could be improved. Fair play they got in and made the changes that folk wanted and stayed voted in on the council for a good while. Don’t remember that vote ever transferring to the general elections though My parents have lived in Smithills since 82. I was 4 when I moved there. Its always been a middle class swing vote place with some folks trying to move there from Halliwell and 'keeping out' the change. Was the same in the 90s I go home often, it is changing, but sadly it'll go reform Quote
Spider Posted Tuesday at 21:07 Posted Tuesday at 21:07 I'll be voting for the local independent mob, as they've done a very decent job over the last few years. I was hoping for a few more witches to be burnt up at the Pike, as they give off that sort of pitchfork vibe, but in the main they give a shit about the local area and when it comes to HMO's, they don't half get upset. It's a council election. I have no idea why the media make it into some massive stay up all night thing. Well, you have to keep the 24 hour podcast news turning, even if its Rortherham council is now split. I sometimes just beg for a bit of slow news. Quote

Bertie Posted Tuesday at 21:42 Posted Tuesday at 21:42 (edited) Over here near Wetherby we’ve got a Tory councillor for the local ward albeit Leeds council is (was?) Labour. Our first time to vote in local elections since moving to Yorkshire two years ago. Tbf there’s no potholes, no graffiti, free garden bin collections and the grass verges are cut regularly. God’s own country indeed. Guess I’ll vote Tory then for more of the same 🤷♂️ Edited Tuesday at 21:45 by Bertie Quote

Local lads who are always on the go especially at weekends, everyone knows the GE will be a whole new ball game, it is going to be a difficult choice when the time comes We had our County Council elections last year. I voted Tory as our Local Councilor puts a shift in, always turns up at meetings and forums and was the only one to knock on the door, she told me she had spent every weekend over the last month door-knocking because she knew Reform were pitching in and she'd be "lost" without her councilor duties... local government should be a calling. She was thankfully re-elected. We did end up with Andrea Jenkins as mayor though, thankfully she has done eff-all except wear a sparkly frock and sing about insomnia. Quote
Traf Posted Wednesday at 08:24 Posted Wednesday at 08:24 I'm not voting. No locals in Rossendale this year. Quote

Duck Egg Posted Wednesday at 09:51 Posted Wednesday at 09:51 Lib Dems are active in my ward all year round so I'll go for them this time, although I'm tempted to show a bit of support for Zach's mob if there is a Green candidate standing. Quote

frank_spencer Posted Wednesday at 11:06 Posted Wednesday at 11:06 Our Reform candidate is currently one of our councillors but was voted in as a Tory. Told one of his lackeys who came door knocking there's no chance of me voting for him, and asked if those who did as a Reform candidate could rely on him not jumping ship again if the tides turned. Got a flustered none answer, probably not expecting someone on my estate to be so anti reform. Imagine 80% of my street leans reform if they were to vote. Quote
Spider Posted Wednesday at 11:17 Posted Wednesday at 11:17 The greens are not a serious option, they’re a protest vote. To be honest, the Brits love a plucky underdog so the Tories might do better than anyone thinks 🙃 Quote

Spider Posted Wednesday at 15:29 Posted Wednesday at 15:29 A new day will dawn on Friday. Dinghies abandoned on the beaches of northern france. Vape shops boarded up Brown people all over Britain heading to detention centres. Cricket games on every village green, with polite crowds of gentrified onlookers swilling warm ale and swapping stories about their long drives out in the TVR. "Nige" coming back from trips abroad having left cowering foreign ministers eating humble pie and waving union jacks. Churchill on Fivers, Henry VIII on tenners and Dibnah on twenties. Cheap everything. I cannot fucking wait. Quote

Seems our Ange may be in trouble over her antics at that school (and the school itself) which could seriously blow up in her face if complaints are made. That might finish her off. Quote
