Beeb qouted him as saying we can win the world cup and anything else is failure.

Unless he's been quoted out of context, then he's set himself up for a fall in the press and public.

From what I heard he said we can. Not will

He also said that they’re going in it to win it. Like every team should.

The only place I’ve seen issue with that is on here

He’s England captain and he’s been asked if we can win it. Seems as balanced an answer, whilst maintain positivity, as you can get

I know he said can not will. I posted such. Don't have a problem with it. It's saying that not doing is failure I'm uneasy with. Some young lads in that squad and I'm not sure how they'd see it, let alone the press.

Well he’s right

Both technically and from the perspective of a winning mentality

Every team captain in the tournament would/should say the same

Irrespective of realistically what finish would be respectable

One that one we'll have to agree to differ. Personalities differ obviously; but if I was a joung player getting a game and looking forward to the world cup and my captain said if we don't win it we've failed I'd regard it as somewhat stupid

I wouldn't need any motivation to try to win each game as I'm sure the players don't. Equally given the recent level of achievement and current expectation I'd say that if we went deep into the competition, played well but ultimately were beaten by a better more experienced team then that would be an achievement and something to build on.

Each to their own though; and I hope it works for him.

What is said to the press and what is said internally are much different

That's what I was hoping would be the case.

You've played at a reasonable level; presumably you've encountered all sorts of personalities and all sorts of captains. Some of them latter will inspire many of the former but not all.

I suppose we'll start to see kane's qualities fairly soon.

Didn't some of their lot once try to claim asylum at a world cup?

If it was in England in '66 they were in fucking Middlesbrough! I think folk from there want to escape to North Korea!

Errrrrrr................I don't suppose you'd offer me better odds than the bookies?

T'was a joke my good man. I think we'll get at least a draw . . .

In all seriousness they could well scramble a result against us and won't be a pushover but yes, we should win.

If we get off to a good start and don't panic we could have a good tournament.

I'm getting a bit giddy about it now..

I never fucking learn

Same, thinking about watching the two or three warm up games before tournament always contribute as well (prefer it when they’re played in a random neutral country the team has had a camp in like Morocco before France 98 or USA before Brazil 14) then they turn out to be awful.

Still fully pumped for Nigeria game tonight though, will they give a run out to this kit that has taken the world by storm?!

Like a kid at Christmas in the build up to a World Cup.

Just had a look and it's smart that..nice retro feel.

Can't believe they want 64 quid for our new home top which is essentially a Nike tick and a badge on a Primark T-shirt

They’ve released a whole range of street wear to go with that Nigeria top, I don’t think a single man on here could pull any of it off.

Glad we’ve gone back to a more traditional kit I don’t mind say 1 in 4 or 5 of ours to be a bit wacky but not every tournament, pricing is scandalous though. I thought they’d gone more sensible with it a while back

Agreed, I don't dislike it...but it should be half that price.

Tbf I don't even know why I'm moaning because I never buy football tops anyway, haha.
