and Cahill is a bit poo to

we're really struggling for a decent CB these days

Aye. I have a few mates who are Chelsea fans, one of them said the other week “Cahill is fucking dog shit now, you can have him back” which made me laugh. Especially when I pointed out that Cahill wage is now probably more than the rest of our squad combined

Cahill would be a good shout, but he's not likely to be playing I wouldn't have thought, unless there are injuries

I’d pick him. Not sure who would be ahead of him. Certainly not Phil Jones who is awful. Stones? Hardly played.

Is he? I'm struggling to see that. We don't have a proper leader in there clearly. I don't like strikers being captains generally as I think often its a distraction. My gut feel is Kane feels pressure when playing for England so I'm not sure this will help.

In the sense that he's a striker and a very good one who is one of the best in the world, yes.

I think the traditional role of captaincy is dead. I think the modern player at that level is too absorbed to be inspired by others as maybe they once were.

It probably depends if we a start with 3 or 4 at the back

I'd expect Maguire and Stones to be first choice CB, if we play 3 at the back, then Cahill would probably get in....although Walker could be pulled in to become the 3rd CB I suppose

I'm assuming a 3 and two of those should be Maguire and Cahill. The third is up for debate.

Stones? How much has he played this season, and has he learned how to defend yet? Not sure why Walker would play CB when he's spent all season at right wing back either.....

Walker has played there in the friendlies where Southgate has tried 3 at the back and done well.

Walker and Stones will defo start as part of a back 3 imo

the other will possibly be cahill

the trend is they are all decent with the ball at their feet

downside, other than walker the other 2 arent very good at defending

I know, that's why I suggested it might be an option.....not sure why bwfcfan5 thinks it's not likely

Its likely but still playing him there when he's spent the season as an attacking right wing back is still bollocks IMO!

Already done well in that position and he'll still have a lot of work to do on that right side, just won't be boming forward as that'll be trippiers job.

He was banned for 4 months :)

Seriously a wc isn't the premier league and he's a dick

Imo

And he's not much better than henderson

Livermore has done gear and nicked a cab

He’s much more of a dick

I reckon Shelvey has matured personally and would’ve taken him in a heartbeat

And Henderson's a regular, so by that definition Shelvey sould be in.

I see the new captain has come out with some magnificent comments.

Why spout shite?

I’ve read a couple of interviews and sounded fine to me

What’s the problem?

Beeb qouted him as saying we can win the world cup and anything else is failure.

Unless he's been quoted out of context, then he's set himself up for a fall in the press and public.

I'd rather that than some half baked apologetic response. If you don't believe you can win the world cup there is no point bothering.

Realistically we aren't very likely to get even to the semis, but the players need belief.

And here lies the problem, he's dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn't.

What do folk want FFS.

Our press and a large portion of football fans in general are wankers.

He can hardly say we've got fuck all chance of winning it, our managers not really fit for the job and the squad is massively inexperienced but we'll see how we go.

I agree with positivity chaps, but he'll need to learn a bit more about not giving the animals in some of the papers ammunition.

We all want to win it, and on our day I belive we can beat anyone. But that's a bit different; don't expect negativity or silly half baked statements just wonder if anyone is helping him avoid traps.

Might just have been better with a slightly more moderated response.

He's a young captain with a lot of goal scoring responsibility -don't want him overloaded with scrutiny.

I guess we'll see in due course.
