  • For the record, I've never had any business dealings with captainmed. I hardly know the bloke and he certainly doesn't know me or my business. It's not the best review I've had, but you can't win

Has anybody ever been to the Gambia? Looking for somewhere warm in Jan/Feb that's a bit different and doesn't cost a fortune.

Isn't that where middle aged women go to meet folk

And as an added bonus you may well get killed?

Yeah apparently a couple of the resorts are like a grannies Pattaya :)

You can get a week including flights and accommodation for about £500 to Kotu Beach which looks decent. From there you can do a mini Safari which is about 25% of what it costs in Kenya.

From what I've read - the Gambia isn't a particularly dangerous place to travel either.

Yeah I was having a look but it's about double the price but it doesn't seem like there's as much to do though! Have you been?

I’ve not mate......been to Cape Project Fear though.....a bit wild there :D

I've been to Cape Verde, it's quite expensive for what it is and yes, pretty dull too.

Quiet week or two away with the wife for Caribbean style weather with shorter flights and no time zone issues, quite decent.

But otherwise, not really.

Gambia looks interesting and I've sent a few there this year and had good reports : might go myself sometime next yr

Kent, go to Oslo in Jan Feb. Fantastic weather, long evenings and cheap ale :D

Costa del Crime. Considered heading into Portugal for the European Nations semi and final but a wise England head off here has had me re-think and I'll watch on the big screen in Puerto Banus or San Pedro de Alcantara with the latter day Kray twins and other interested parties.

Is that one of those places where people put the word 'the' in front of it when it's not needed

Like the Netherlands or the Ukraine

Yes, but the Netherlands is correct as it's a plural.

Or The British Isles, or the United States of America

Fair play. Can you look for my soul if you get a minute. Last seen on the repherbahn hehe

Just booked flights (Ryanair) for a cheeky cheapo January week in Las Palmas...

(Manchester-Gran Canaria)

£5 out

£19.99 return

£24.99 all in - Bargain!

I also, being a big spender, paid the £6 supplement e.w. for two cabin bags and priority boarding, but the more miserly could go full tramp and go with the free permissable 'smaller' cabin bag B)

I presume there's other flight bargains with Ryanair going, but I'd guess none where it's 22c today.

FML! How will they make money on that??? Great price.

Still contemplating Fuerteventura in Feb. Mrs finally secured a permanent job again, starting early Jan, so money worries eased.

You have to wonder...

Not seen £5 flights (albeit with carrier bag sized 'luggage' allowance) in years.

The return flights have shifted from sparrow fart in the morning to around 10:30 am an' all so that's another €25 saved on taxi fare for misers like me.

Never been to Fuerteventura, I think that would be a family/villa with pool type affair, heard it's very quiet.

A while since, but have done the bus back to the airport from the beach resorts down south. Think it only stopped a small handful of times. Worth the saving over a taxi if there’s only 1 or 2 of you.
