Clearly haven’t been on bradhsawgate on a Saturday night NIC or in Edinburgh or Glasgow on a weekend. It’s carnage. Full of ale and drugs. Cocaine use up here is higher than its ever been and a a large proportion of those in the 18-25 range out and about will be on it.

Clearly a southern thing this clean living non drinking lifestyle.

I think ts probably more of a social class thing as well. I work with mainly upper middle class home counties youngsters.

Any of you fellow nut jobs changed medication??

Its on the cards for me but I’m absolutely cacking my pants :(

I’m on the max dose of what I’m on now. I’m ok like but the warning signs are there they’re running their course. It’s been a couple of years now.

Ive been here before, but normally just up the dose.

Like I say, don’t worry I’m totally fine, can just tell the clouds are gathering...

At the risk of sounding a bit naieve, is there not an option to start coming off them gradually once they’ve run their course?

I know you can’t just stop, but is the next step not to try and aim to reduce them?

Changing just sounds like a potential pitfall.

Im no expert though. I just know pills are bad, mainly.

Are you worried by a potential change of medication?

Why are they changing it?

Feel free to pm me if you want to talk more about medication etc.

Still on sertraline, and not sure if I'll ever come off!

You'll be anxious of course but if you're at max dose the only option is to change.

It might become a self-fulfilling prophecy if this anxiety feeds the monkey.

You can always go back (to the other med) on a cleaner slate if the replacement doesn't cut it.

Talk to your GP about your reservations and fears/doubts.

The new shit might be better, I went from Sildenafil to Tadalafil and was very sceptical and pissed off with the change - I would never go back to bluey now though 😀

Keep your spirits up and here (ww) is always here.

Had a review a few weeks ago, was panicking a bit that they were gonna pull them from under me sertaline (200mg) didn’t even tell my Mrs who’s a quack. Spoke to the GP and she reassured me that as long as I’m ok taking them and feel good there’s no reason why they would change or reduce them. That felt like a weight off my mind

If you’re on max dose and the clouds are gathering that’s pretty much telling you that the meds have run their course. And you’ve recognised it which is good. Embrace the change pal. Spent the last few months going through it with my youngest. Not easy, won’t lie, but the change has been massive and positive. All the best

I'm on propanonol as i refused to take anything which might "change" the way I act. I have a friend who was worse on the medication than off it.

It takes the edge off, which helps, I've tried to stop them but it gets much worse. Issue for me is that it then messes with my thyroxin levels, and they're already messed up.

Cheers folks.

spider, doc said when I moved to max dose the next options would be to try other meds or like you say start coming off them if, and it’s a massive if, everything is Rosie.

Think I’m more concerned about starting the whole process again :(

These I’m on now have been superb. Each time I’ve increased the dose it’s done the trick after a couple months bedding in.

Plus I’ve always like the idea of them as they are proactive rather than reactive and basically just stimulate your jizz pot to pump out normal amounts of jizz like everybody else.

Like youri says I’m probably feeding the monkey already worrying about it.

On my 4th week off the pop and stuff so it’s not all that caper before anyone thinks it’s all down to be a part time vile druggy thug :)

Thanks again for the info chaps.

My old fella suffered all his life, been on every tablet known to man, shock treatment in the 70s, was a 40 woodbines a day man and taken anti depressants every day for 60 years he’s 89 now and I’m baffled to how he’s still alive he's still under Salford mental health now, he’s confounded every physchiatrist they’ve ever thrown at him, we reckon it’s down the his war experiences as a kid, his sister had terrible accident when he was a kid and his mum hardly saw him for 2 years, his dad died in 1942 from his WW1 lung injuries, he used to have to go into the air raid shelters as a kid with neighbours and he often tells me about how scared he was when he heard the humming of the German planes. Mental health is a very difficult thing to solve I wish my Dad could have had some sort of counselling when he was younger to get to the root of the problem, taking anti depressants I feel should just be a short term fix and the long term solution should be therapy and ongoing training in dealing with the days when moods are black.

My message would be do everything in your power to find a non prescriptive solution, exercise, fresh air, doing things you enjoy and putting you’re mental health and well being first and foremost, get the work life balance right and spend time with family & friends. Good luck to all suffering.

Retire or change your job, nothing is worth feeling anxiety like that, the longer you allow it to continue the more damage will be done, I am no expert but I take that type of feeling as your body telling you to stop doing it, so if you can make the change, make it.

Change your job. I have been there. On silly money 15-20 years ago, big car etc etc. But that in essence controls/dictates your life and moods. I can virtually guarantee you the day you make that decision and basically take control of your own life it will be a game changer.

ironically it was forced on me by being made redundant but I got some incredibly good support as part of the package, first part of which was understanding redundancy did not make you a failure. Second bit for me was about highlighting via various tests what was important to me and made me happy/tick. This showed the job I was doing did none of these, the money was spent on beer, drugs and gambling so very superficial and quickly gone.
Of course you may need some income to keep your head above water, but there is loads of research that shows unhappiness depression and anger are massively increased when you feel you are not in control of your own future, so if you can sit back and decide what you like and want to do more of in your life (the big pile) and what you want to do less of (the little pile) you will see you do have lots more in the big pile than you think (family friends etc) than the little pile (work and being from Bury etc) it is amazing how much difference you can make for yourself.

That is not to belittle people going through this at a deeper level but taking as much control as you can over your own destiny can help avoid that dark black hole. The strange thing  you are actually doing this by choosing to do more stuff you enjoy !

Genuine conversation with my missus 15 years ago - Her 'my ex husband is being a real prick, we are meant to have joint custody and he never takes his turn it makes me so angry I am going to speak to a lawyer' Me - 'Does that mean you get to spend more time with the kids and do stuff like go to Knowsley safari park ?' Her 'I do see them more which is great , what is Knowsley ?' Me ''We will go next time you have them on his day.'  We did and kids loved it still laugh about it today. Her small pile was ex being a prick which she was focussed on, her big pile spending times with the kids.

Work is simply not worth that dark Sunday feeling if you can make a call to change it do so, if not remember why you are doing it and the benefits it brings.

Great post, my wife worked at a primary school and felt anxiety every day, mainly the pressure from those above her and a poor work environment,  went on for a couple of years, few months back a job came up at a nursery, initially 2 days a week, told her to go for it, she got the job, yes we are poorer but she is so much happier with her life, that also makes me happy.

I am sure that you posted on here a month or so ago that you may be able to afford to retire as you own property?

Look into it properly financially and If you can afford it then I can recommend it.

I’ve done 4 weeks now and the freedom is fantastic……

Life really is too short.

Agree

Back in 2008 ish I went to quit my job but got offered 7.5k more to stay along with promises of a change in direction

So i stayed

Few months later, massively regretted it but felt trapped, so started drinking more and smoking more weed

Which increased the anxiety which spilled over into relationships and ended up in a vicious self destructive anxious circle

Ended up at the doctor's on stuff to control the anxiety

But it was when i went back to the guy who'd offered me the job, got offered the job again and took a 25% pay cut that made feel better (though the bird had binned me off by this point)

Never looked back

Then after several years at that job when it was getting me down and needed another change in direction, because the perception of climbing up the ladder to leadership and board level equating to success and progress meant i wasn't doing the things i enjoy

So i quit that and went freelance

The ultimate control and now i do what im best at and enjoy most

Never looked back

This 100%

Can be a bit frightening the thought of changing- a big step- but that is what causes the rut we can find ourselves stuck in. The longer we're in it, the deeper it gets.

The tablets issue is interesting- no one really likes the idea of going on them, but accepting them is in part, part of the process of treatment; overcoming fears and anxiety.

Just like it can be with counselling.

Definitely try the latter- help with thinking processes etc is useful, but equally don't dismiss medicine. We take treatments for other "physical" symptoms, like something to boost the thyroid if it's underperforming, so no reason to shun something which helps with serotonin levels. In that regard it is a physical issue just like with another organ.

It's weird, because some health professionals will try to get you off them quite readily, whereas others prefer to take the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" approach.

Additionally, one thing I've always felt is that gut health plays a massive part. I once had a bad tummy infection (dog shit contact I reckon), and after that I developed ibs for a while and mental health issues later. Clearly not all down to that, but more is being learned in this area now, chillies for example boost serotonin levels, but I got myself onto these gut bacteria supplements, and I do feel better in different ways too. Definitely worth a try.

As already mentioned have a look elsewhere. I’ve just changed my career after 24 years in one industry. Although it’s early days yet I’m glad I did it when I did, I needed to get the work/home balance right.

And folks say that this is “just a football forum”

Hats doffed to all

I have just started a 9 month contract after having 2 years off. Gone back as with travel restrictions can not go abroad as much so thought get some money and re asses at Xmas.

The fact I forgot my pension was taxable was a factor too 😁

If you can afford it stopping work changes your day from doing what you have to to doing what you want. If you have a job you love great, but especially after last few months enjoying life has to be the goal

Can still do some damage. As you said in original post 'work life balance' think you have young kids, you do not get those years back.
