No they ran out of stock so are using one that has been approved and used in States for a few years. it is explained on a piece of paper you get when you have the jab. You know the one you read afterwards.

Didn't get any papers after mine. Walk in, follow arrows, sleeve raised, jab and fuck off.

Presumably you got from stock ordered to cope with planned numbers

As I've mentioned before, GPS ordered months ago

Then it was decided to immunise loads more

Hence, shortages

Just checked

UK Population 66 million

2 jabs each is 132 million appointments

Fuck me that's nearly 25 million per month over six months if everyone turns up

No chance

Not sure kids are getting it.

anyway doesn’t matter. Back to normal for spring aren’t we? 🧐

Was an odd one; wife was called for hers a while ago (asthma). Never been called before, but got the call a couple of weeks ago, and sorted quickly.

Not sure if it was from original stock or extra supplies.

They normally do 15m Winter Flu jabs without issue

Given everything that’s going on you’d like to think they can ramp up the NHS to deliver considerably more Covid vaccines

Besides, get the 15m done and 99% of the risk to the NHS disappears, that’s the 30m appointments that count

Its like the most vulnerable 5m people represent a bigger % of the risk to the NHS than the other 10m, get those 5m most vulnerable sorted (10m appointments) and the risk that Covid poses to the NHS will halve

She never told me how the shortfall was made up

I do know they're now rocking horse

Presumably they've done pretty much what they hoped to. Protect the olds.

I was offered one for £15 by the pharmacist well before gp rang, so must have been plenty available.

Anyways, as for covid vaccine, surely they could recruit dentists to help out too.

Are folk forgetting the complexity of the current vaccine? In terms of transport and storage?

Works for 48 hours after coming out deep freeze doesn’t it?

Should be more than enough time to get out of a distribution centre, to a hospital then into someone’s arm

Dry Ice should also buy more time if needed

Think I read it can be kept in a normal fridge for a period of time. It was just with folk using flu vaccine as a comparable I found it odd as they are completely different.  But this place does have a habit of strange comparisons.

we’ve only just got past comparing the uk to south Korea after all

That's fine, but not so good for small scale use at care homes. Unless mhra has agreed now, the large packs cannot be split for such distribution, so have to go to the hospital hubs.

My GP’s surgery have phoned me twice to invite me for my annual flu jab. In an effort to keep the surgery available for use by those who need to attend, I’d already accepted my local pharmacist’s invitation. Both the phone callers from my doctor’s were told I’d already had it at the chemist.

Perhaps one of the issues is that there may not be a database where the jab I had takes my off my GP’s list as well.

Hardly strange to compare the 2

I've every confidence in the professionals to get them in somebodies arm, especially as a suitable fridge was delivered last last week

And why would we doubt the useless wankers being able to get the vax to the GPs

I'll tell her to stop mithering

The chances of one register linking to another is fucking minimal. :)

I just thought the storage issues with COVID compared to flu meant they weren’t similar.  But im No expert and this is the closest I will get to having the vaccine talking about it on here anyway.

the logistics will be the hard bit. Think you need to blame the logistics companies and planners if it goes wrong though. But that won’t fit the modus operandi I know.

Think there may be some confusion over fridges and freezers. This Pfizer one has to be 'defrosted' from deep freeze and can then be stored in a fridge for a few days during which it needs to be used.

Hence hubs being set up with proper storage.

Would imagine gp surgeries are being prepared for Oxford vaccine in the main.

Sorry, they've had months and months to be ready to get it where it needs to be

Its not a secret about the storage issues

No excuses

Why would you roll out a system geared up to a specific vaccine when it’s only just been approved? So you can moan if it didn’t get approved at wasting money?

somebody asks your work for a quote for a job. You just crack on and manufacture it yes? Without an order or certainty it’s on? If it doesn’t come off just bin it? Sure you do
