For anyone who followed it this is Italy just a few weeks behind. Suggested wfh and suggesting no social contact. Every fucker carries on. Shut schools and wfh... Every fucker carries on. Hospitals over run. Lock down.

I’m on about the latest plan the one he spoke about yesterday, and yes the next stage to lockdown might be only a day or 2 away, before we go for full lockdown I hope the U.K. experts are looking closely at the number of cases here and not on mainland Europe.

I don't think that involves introducing it into the population anymore which you were on about an hour ago

Right lads

Milk - Smithills farm deliver it and have fucking loads. Plus it’s better than the shite from the Asda.

Eggs - mate has a farm in Blackrod and owns a few thousand hens so he’s your man. Hasn’t put his prices up either. Richard Ashworth / Stoneylane Angus Farm, google it.

Greengrocers is horwich had loads of stock yesterday and the outer leaves of a cabbage make an excellent substitute for bumwad.

Youve gotta box clever and keep it local. The big shops are fucking loving this.

I also know a white witch who has a few old recipes that blow paracetamol out of the water.

I'm  not convinced we have a proper plan, this isn't a dig at anybody, as like every other country in the world, we're pretty much making it up as we go along.

I still can't get my head around the fact that children are still are allowed to go to school, but adults are being told/advised not to socially interact - that seems a bit of a mixed signal to me

It's bizarre to say the least.

We have 5000 ventilators in the country. You reckon that’s enough if we just let people catch it?

If we let those not classed as vulnerable it’s going to stretch a damn sight further. Also I believe we are doing what we can to get more ventilators in. Sadly there is no magic wand. I think we are doing a fair job in an unprecedented crisis

We’re not in lockdown folk are working , schools are open it’s being spread right now, if we do lockdown then when we come out of lockdown it will spread once again, there is no way of avoiding it and all governments are doing is attempting to slow it down.

"Boris Johnson has made clear as the government urged people to work from home and avoid pubs and restaurants, as well as non-essential travel – particularly in London. Up to 1.5 million people with the “most serious health conditions” must avoid almost all social contact for 12 weeks, from this weekend."

for me, the only difference between that and lockdown is no one will make you go home, but we're only one step away

that'll come in the next few days I think, but the plan you're on about has already been kicked into touch yesterday

edit: in fact, maybe today

Mr Johnson suggested curfews could be introduced and emergency legislation to be introduced today could give police the power to detain people suspected of being infected.

It appears that they are drip feeding us info so that it wont come as a shock - I expect that several areas, if not the whole country we will be on full lockdown next week, for several weeks, as in Spain, France Italy

It took China 5 weeks to reverse the figures in Wuhan province - a similar size and population to England and Wales.

For those saying what happens if the outbreaks come back into the countries when the quarantine is relaxed, well at that stage there will be some herd immunity, and quarantines could be imposed again sporadically to keep the infection rates down - the ultimate aim is to get as few people infected until we have a vaccine - if that means quarantines every few weeks, then so be it.

If folk need bog rolls, tesco at the middle brook have their daily delivery at 6am

My kids came out of school yesterday with work packs for home. Looks like planning has already gone ahead, I’m expecting schools to be closing soon

aye, but with that bucket of water analogy in mind, I think the time from letting it spread freely to imposing restrictions to lock down to help the NHS cope is coming around a whole lot quicker than most folk anticipated - i.e. a few days, not weeks or months, so I'd say don't get too comfortable with idea of letting it spread

The imperial college research say you need these restrictions almost constantly till a vaccine can be deployed, if one can. Not sure that you can flip easily in and out.

The issue we have is there is a lag of around 12 days from infection to  hospitalisation, and a further 9 - 30 days in hospital to recover/die.

Its likely that we are nearing 50,000 infected very soon.

the official figures show that 13% of cases are severe (pneumonia, shortness of breath), and 4.7% are critical - these % however are based against recorded cases, not taking into account unrecorded asymptomatic and mild cases so they're probably quite a lot lower in real terms.

If we went for 75% lower, this still means that we are going to get a surge of about 8,000 requiring serious medical intervention in the next 4 or 5 weeks.

we will have to hope the quarantines work

Maybe, I don't know how re-quarantining would work - I would expect if it broke out again in Wuhan that it would be an easier transition to quarantine as folk would be more used to it, systems already in place, more ventilators, beds etc, - folk less likely to panic, and there would be a few hundred thousand walking around with immunity, surely that would result in a 2nd outbreak being slower and less fatalities - maybe I'm wrong - im sure we will see what happens in China in the next few weeks

The issue is monitoring. Hard to monitor subsequent breakouts when as you say symptoms start a few days or a week after infection and by then you've spread it - I also think culture is important. It really does feel now like an impossible situation - it feels unreal to be honest. And over time I can imagine more people just wanting to "get it done with" but that choice seems impossible to take anymore politically, and financially.

It's always about controlling the rate at which people get it.

Complete lockdown may well work, but it would have to be for so long to ensure (if possible) that it's died out that there's every chance it won't as folk decide to toss it off. Police and army etc can't cover the entire country to keep order.

So the alternative is to accept the infection but to find the balance between droconian measures, managing infection within the NHS and allowing some sense of economic normality.

The plan they outlined last week stated that more stringent measures would follow, so it seems like the it's being followed.

True, its going to be a fucking nightmare, and repercussions will be felt for years to come, just hope we can save as many people as possible.

Even though this country is full of knobheads, when it comes to the crunch I believe the majority have good, hardworking, decent characteristics and the majority will hold this country together.

It’ll be reet

Bolton hospital closed for visitors.

Folk were joking last night but today Canon Slade are sending kids home who cough in class. Inevitably the hall is full of em waiting to be picked up so I've been told.

I see it as being a way to get some of that herd immunity. Particularly for the future if not for now.

Many will also be sent to grandparents as people have to work.

Just a push towards Easter holidays before they have to be closed.

Reckon they will close very soon; lad said his headmaster had intimated this Friday, so will see.

Yep. Little lever the same yesterday.

Have we any idea what happens if you have no income during this period? Mortgage holidays seems 99% sure to happen. And I imagine gas, electric, water -  will try to defer bills where possible.
Council tax? Guess it can be suspended.
And then we have food? How do you buy food with no money? Means testing? Rationing and handouts?

I'll let you know next week.

One of the doors on my van decided to refuse to open last week.

Gone in doc today.

Remarkable as it's french and seems to have gone into lockdown at a similar time to its nation of manufacture.

Either that or its mutated to affect vehicles.
