Just taken the Summer 2020 exam timetable off the noticeboard and requested it to be taken down off the College website.

Just waiting for calls off Students and their Parent etc... who will want answers that i just dont have yet.

Im quite sadistic, i enjoy the 6 weeks of chaotic A-Level exams. Moaning invigilators, stressed teachers and Students, it keeps me sane and gets me prepped for a long summer jolly.

Its going to be strange, and its going to have a knock on affect for at least 3 to 4 years, maybe longer.

Teachers as i type will all be inflating their predicted grades no doubt 😁

Nobodys going to win out of all this,  unfortunately some Students and their parents will think its unfair, but thats the point, their isn't going to be fairness and you aren't going to please everybody, whatever the Education Secretary and Ofqual come up with will probably cause a lot of stress and anxiety and all created by a fucking virus made in China via bats, fucking madness!

Thats how its affected me, unless im infected as well. Everyones lives are going to have to change over the coming months, be safe and be sensible and don't lose your sense of humour, we are going to need it.

As Wolfy would say "Power to the People"

Entitlement and privilege and money and screeching are not massively respected by this novel virus.

For those of you who haven't read the Imperial College report (the report which made Boris and co sit up a bit),  this twitter thread is an interpretation of it from a US perspective.

It's alarming to say the least

it's certainly sobered me up

It's 174 days until the 2020 Autumn term is due to start.

Is there any hope whatsoever that we are going to be allowed further than the local shops/park in this time?

Just to confirm. 174 days.

Hope is for the underprivileged

Depends if we have a vaccine, otherwise, what would change to free us up?

If you use the postcode finder on here you will see how many cases in your area. Then compare with a random London one. Leeds has 12 cases from 800k people.  Southwark has 70 from 318k.  So nearly 6 times the cases from less than half the number of people.

Wigan - population 326,088, confirmed Coronavirus cases = 4

Lambeth,London - population 325,917, confirmed Coronavirus cases =  61.

So 15 times more cases in an area of London, than a very similar sized area oop North.

I suppose it could be the case that in terms of progression of the virus, us up North are a week or two behind that there London.

One tweet in that report says that one person has been given a newly developed vaccine, albeit untested.

Through out its doomsday predictions, a ray of light.

Depends on what happens in South East Asia in the next few weeks. China have restricted US journalists from several media outlets so many won't trust the reports that will come out in the next few weeks showing how the infection responds to relaxing of quarantines. We will have to rely on some other countries as test cases.

probably true, but confirmed cases is a red herring at the moment, unless you also have the breakdown of how many tests have been completed.

For example, Wigan might have only tested 100.  Lambeth might have tested 1000.

There will likely be hotspots in several areas.

Deaths per NHS trust is what you need to see how it's doing in a particular area - the info is out there somewhere, I've seen it in some reports - i'll see if I can find.

Here is some hope. There are potential treatments being investigated that could, could be used to give some parts of the population temporary immunity which would in theory allow life to somewhat get back to normal. One is a protein binding drug that could block the virus from binding to human cells, the other is a treatment using recovered patients blood. Now, the former may work (in a past life I worked in this very type of drug design!) better but would require people to take it every day and of course before infection, so in practical terms it could allow healthcare workers to be protected and maybe the most vulnerable in society. And if it is shown to work would of course be able to be deployed quicker than a vaccine. The blood idea is probably a bit more desperate but would offer potentially some benefits to healthcare workers. However I see that being very problematic.

India have used a ridiculous cocktail of anti virals that they say offers some improvement. Again it’s not feasible to have everyone taking it, but if you can catch early cases it may reduce severity in most enough to allow some form of life to carry on.

Heres my thought for the day there are a lot of very clever people out there who will all be working on this. I didn’t sleep last night. I’m worried sick. But I’ve decided that we have to have some hope. It’s 2020, the world has enough brilliance to find a way and somehow we must.

We'll be reet. Some clever fuckers about

🙏  same here, 3 hours kip. I'm going to have some news and social media free days, for my own wellbeing.

I'm turning off the news now unless something massive happens.

It's just the 5pm update for me with a can of ale.

Just out of interest, right now how bad is it at the Hospital? Given there are very few recorded cases around here, I imagine it's eerily quiet?

I'm currently at the hospital, my wife is having an ultrasound scan, it's very quiet in the out patients department, there were loads of space on the car park.

I know in the scheme of things at the minute it's not really important but how the fuck do people work from home all the time and not go insane?

Let's hope that doesn't change for the next few months.

I’ve just been to tesco to fill the car up as was on reserve. Whilst there thought I would pop in to the store see what it was like.

I had a look around for the posters advertising the see how much stuff you can ram in a trolley competition. I couldn’t see them. Just stood there looking at some of the cretins and shaking my head

can somebody please answer me has there been a directive that supermarkets are closing at lunchtime today and there is no more food supply? Have I missed something?? Cos I really cannot compute this shit and the behavior and stupidity of folk

I've been doing it for years - you need to plan a routine, and have something that prepares you every day before work to get you in the right frame of mind, and make sure you have proper breaks - I take the dog for a walk at 8am and midday regardless of what work I'm doing, and make sure you switch the laptop off - also helps a lot if you have a room that is used solely for work - doing it in front of the telly or in the kitchen doesn't help.

I think as well the way people live. The obvious example the tube at rush hour. I imagine the infection rate goes through the roof. But the issue is seriously deeper down there.
The message is clear, do everything you can to contain the growth.

My mate just text me, he's at Asda doing his weekly shopping, there's no chicken or minced beef, so he ended up buying a duck instead.

Tell your mate Greeleys butchers have loads of mince and chicken. Most butchers probably do.
