Sometimes stubborn "optimism" manifests itself as stupidity.

Lock down areas with high levels of cases, inform those at risk or those who’ve got the virus to isolate, the rest is overkill.

They aren’t staff so not covered. You can only get dividends if you are shareholder so not sure that’s a valid concern you have?

thousands of small companies are ltd - 1 maybe 2, 3 employees -  take most of their income from dividends, pay them self a small wage, less than £12K  - I'm not talking mega rich businessmen, I'm on about small companies.

No, not mixing with anyone who’s at risk I’ve not been in work office for 10days , if I get ill it’ll most likely be from the wife who’s looking after kids at school or my son who’s still at school and at that stage I’ll isolate myself. I’m taking sensible precautions the only people I’m mixing with is my lad and wife and that’s unavoidable.

I mean drinking Yorkshire ale. Have you no shame man

But they cannot pay an employee from dividends. It’s physically impossible pal unless I’m missing your point

and all this means for the shareholders is that they will pay themselves salary and have a higher tax liability. But given they have just been given 80% of the staffs wages to them as a grant they are likely to be ok I imagine using a broad brush set of assumptions.

You obviously feel you know better than all the people who came to this conclusion and made this decision.

But you were saying you may go for a pint. That means interaction with at least one other person other than your missus. Self check outs often have a queue so that's more people

I could catch it tomorrow but I won't know where it came from, it could be from a bloke in the supermarket who has spent all day in the pub or the little old dear getting the last pack of bog roll and so I won't blame either

I've been very impressed with how Singapore have contained it with the contact trace system, very good indeed.

Governments have to make radical decisions and have to live with the consequences, so I fully understand why they’ve made the call they have, my view is it’s not going to be anywhere near as bad as they are planning for.

you can be both - an employee and a director.

If you are a small company with low staff numbers, say 1 or 2,  you are the director and the employee. the company will pay them a dividends and a wage. if the turnover is small it will be a very low wage. start up businesses directors may have paid themselves £0 wages  - I didn't pay myself anything in my first year, I had no staff, i was the director and the employee.

Hope that makes sense - lots of one man bands, or partnerships are ltd companies

I just can’t believe what we’re living through.

I take it back, he's dropped a bollock saying shops are closing

WOW just WOW

Incredible move

The right move

The economy was burning down, now it isn’t, fantastic effort

God knows what this ‘Tory’ debt will look like once all this has been chalked up

Let’s get through this and then worry about that mate eh

Fuck you Mr Wetherspoon

Get more money printed

all gets put back into the pot

Another thumbs up here for Rishi. Seriously composed.

Very coherent tonight Boris compared to his usual bumbling self. Also impressed with Rishi. Not a fan of the tories but they’ve stepped upto the plate here. General feeling amongst mates (mainly staunch labour) is they’re also impressed and fairplay

his situation looks pretty hopeless if he has to care for his kids without work

suppose he can try universal credit but beyond that, hes fooked

It’s horrible for him, he won’t be alone though in suffering like this.

Hopefully the government funding will be able to help him.

Hardly a fair comparison when it's a complete global crisis.
