They quarantined 35 million people and an area the size of England and Wales for weeks, closed schools, business, public gatherings. Restricted millions from leaving their homes (one person per household allowed out every 2 days in some areas), massively reduced transport between major cities outside of the quarantine zone, disinfected streets, made thousands of more hospital beds available, increased medical supply production, reduced taxes on vulnerable businesses, mobilised the army.

Fully aware of what they have done

However, I was of the impression that they were doing it in order to slow the spread of the Virus down, looking at the number of confirmed new cases in China it would appear that they are close to halting the spread altogether

Just not what I expected given our own government have been talking about 20% of the workforce potentially off work due to contracting the illness. Less than 0.05% of the Chinese population has tested positive for it! Granted they have reacted with extreme measures but don’t forget we have a huge advantage over them as we have had much more time to prepare for it hitting our general population

How accurate are their numbers? And secondly - are we going to come close to the measures they put in place? Imagine locking down NW England saying everyone must stay in their homes for weeks on end - can you see that happening and people complying?

The Chinese also have significantly more control over people's lives.

They were talking about this very subject some days ago. The people are far more used to strong government control and influence and less likely to "kick off" in the face of Draconian measures.

The lockdown in Italy isn't total, although stringent.

The  new chancellor needs to stay up and burn the midnight oil. The Government needs to get a lot of money in the economy or we are in for one long recession.

Think we might see a big jump in inflation this year and a good rise in interest rates, the good times are over for a while.

Unfortunatly I can see a lot of houses being repossessed in late summer.

Just hope I am totally wrong and the markets recover and the virus is not as bad as some are saying.

Interest rates won’t rise in a recession. Have you been buying lots of toilet rolls.

Depending on how you interpret the latest update from Boris, they seem to be saying that everyone with even a suspicion of the virus needs to self isolate.

No mention of testing you, just an instruction to stay home.

This is nightmarish. As an employer, do you still pay people - many of whom you just know will play the Coronavirus card - or do you tell them it’s SSP and have genuinely infected people in your business?

The scope for folk taking the piss is absolutely immense now.

Just hoping it’s not as bad as the doom mongers are saying. Hand on heart, I think we’ll be reet.

I’m on two weeks leave at the minute. Already getting my self isolation email penned ready to go friday 👌🏼I should add that I’m able to work at home and have every intention of grafting and catching up I’m just not fancying trips to Milton Keynes, Barnsley and swindon in the next two weeks upon my return.

Looks like a change in the advice now; if you're exhibiting any symptoms of a cold/respiratory issue then stay off for 7 days.

Just a thought. Club will be able to shut the upper tiers once this thing grips properly and the piss stained, werthers original sucking folk up there have departed this world

Apologies if I came across as condescending.

It's the measures they have taken to stop the spread that have reduced the infected and death numbers.

For example, in Beijng, a city twice as big as London, a similar distance away from Wuhan as London is from Northern Italy, where they have only had 428 cases and 8 deaths, they have had large amounts of the poulation on lockdown for weeks - still over 800K today.

If you want to see what its like there watch this https://www.arte.tv/en/videos/095527-000-A/coronavirus-the-beijing-quarantine-diaries/

However, the test will be when we see if the numbers flare up again once everyone starts to return to work and school. we don't know if they've contained it or just suppressed it for a bit.

Right - an update for you.

In answer to someone's question from earlier in the week - it takes 2 hours to get a result back - but there's a 48 hour lead time at the moment as they're being analysed in a lab in North Manchester and in batches.

As of yet there's no Coronavirus 19 specific swab - so it's having to be done the old fashioned way. If a specific swab is developed it should speed up the process, and might not require lab access - but it's likely to be expensive.

There will be a drive through coronavirus testing station by appointment only at Waters Meeting from tomorrow. There will also be a home visiting service. In addition to the pod up at A&E.

Loads of NHS staff have volunteered to be part of the testing effort.  Still no panic - everyone is just keen to do what they can to help.

Good info, when do you expect non essential operations to be stopped?

You’re right about folk taking the piss.
So they won’t have to get a docs note, and can just have flu symptoms, get 7 days off fully paid?
Bone idle fuckers will be lapping it up

It’s the fully paid bit that is unclear.

Most companies will go down the SSP route.

It won’t stop 25% of the workforce doing several box sets over the next few weeks.

My employer has stated if you can work from home then no problems. If you can’t and need to self isolate it’s SSP as you predict spider

It’s genuinely a huge worry.

We get materials from China and Italy.

We have a labour force on low wages, a decent number of whom don’t need much excuse for a day off. Possibly even worse, we have good staff who would crawl to work with their lungs hanging out.

Add to that a small chance schools might shut and we are Fucked.

Ah bollocks. Sorry to hear that mate, you seemed really enthused.

Suppose you'll be able to reschedule?

I've got your mum's tickets if you want to use them Friday?

Leeds and Burnley now restricting training ground access for academy and women players. First teams only
