Good info, when do you expect non essential operations to be stopped?

I think that would come from central government if they move onto to the next phase.

Depending on how you interpret the latest update from Boris, they seem to be saying that everyone with even a suspicion of the virus needs to self isolate.

No mention of testing you, just an instruction to stay home.

This is nightmarish. As an employer, do you still pay people - many of whom you just know will play the Coronavirus card - or do you tell them it’s SSP and have genuinely infected people in your business?

The scope for folk taking the piss is absolutely immense now.

Just hoping it’s not as bad as the doom mongers are saying. Hand on heart, I think we’ll be reet.

I think we will be ok. But my elderly mum with other stuff going on perhaps not. Which is why I hope businesses are prepared to play ball here. Someone taking the piss is far less of an issue than someone coming in and spreading it round everywhere.

I was involved in some of the flu pandemic planning computer modelling back in 2008ish and we designed a model for infection rates. One of the biggest things to slow it was closing schools but seems that this virus doesn’t pass round kids as much and often they are asymptomatic and less infectious it would appear. So self isolation of those symptomatic is probably the best thing. I did wonder if they would do that given implications but seems they will.

so after listening to LBC all day where the general summary was we're 3 weeks behind Italy, my mrs doesn't want to go to the Goldfrapp gig at Albert Hall at the end of the month - fair enough, I don't think she was that arsed anyway but I still want to, and probably will

but we also have a caravan weekend booked and are planning on taking the folks, in theory we could just stay in the caravan but the point is to go to things like the tots disco for a couple of hours in the evening, and it gets quite busy

so sort of thinking not to bother - its not this weekend, the weekend after

not trying to panic, I'll take my chances and keep washing my hands, but not sure they should be going anywhere like that

Olympiacos v wolves behind closed doors. Bit shit for those heading over.

Rossal private school near me closed down.

Interest rates won’t rise in a recession. Have you been buying lots of toilet rolls.

Never bought toilet roll in my life

We are not in a recession as yet, but these are unusual times and circumstances

As I said I hope I am wrong

Thing is, during a recession, folk aren't spending, prices drop and interest rates are reduced to help the economy. Usually.

Ok, some employmees could be affected, but I would imagine lenders would be sympathetic in that situation, as it's likely to be relatively brief and the job market generally strong.

It’s genuinely a huge worry.

We get materials from China and Italy.

We have a labour force on low wages, a decent number of whom don’t need much excuse for a day off. Possibly even worse, we have good staff who would crawl to work with their lungs hanging out.

Add to that a small chance schools might shut and we are Fucked.

I cannot believe you have posted this ….we have a labour force on low wages who dont need much of a excuse to have a day off

Then go on about good staff [good wages] your fishing right

I’ve booked flights over to Spain beginning of April,  they’d better not cancel flights, need a bit of rest and recuperation. Not arsed if they cancel flights for a week or 2 while I’m recuperating. 😂

Think he's saying within his workforce some are skiving glassbacks looking for an excuse for two weeks off and others have a strong work ethic and would turn up for work even if on deaths door.

People taking the piss in this circumstance is better than people being heroes.

It’s a stark choice;

Try to keep the economy going or save older folks

Its a political decision that no one wants, but has to be taken.

If only it was that simple, I'm sure most of us would happily sacrifice a few thousand old duffers, if it kept the economy on track. Its not just codgers it gets though is it

Thanks Stevie.

Thats precisely it.

All businesses will have a workforce with a mixed attitude.

I would absolutely bet everything I have on a particular bloke in our office to be first ringing in to self isolate. It’s so nailed on.

In summary, most people will carry on as normal, but plenty will see it as a chance to hit Netflix very hard.

I have a bloke who works for me who has been told by the company to isolate because he picked his wife and kids up after their ski-ing holiday in Italy (I know, fuck me, did we know how good it was). Poor sod is climbing the walls - keeps emailing the office with NHS 111 info pleading to come back to work and keeps being rebuffed. He's no symptoms, wife and kid have none, he just wants to work

Emailed my team to say that I wasn't now going on my cruise on Thursday so my holiday dates will alter. The usual suspect emailed back saying how disappointed I must be to not have an extra free 2 weeks holiday/isolation. Cretin
