Not sure what everyone’s individual experience of home schooling is but ours has been excellent, the teachers have worked non-stop.

The two kids at primary use Class Dojo. The week’s timetable is set and we send in work for marking and there are online classes. The kids work from 9-4 Monday to Friday. Middle kid is also doing home tests and extra zoom classes for the 11 plus. Works very well.

The eldest is set her week’s work, and has direct zoom classes. She does finish the work sooner than if she was at school but all work has to be submitted for marking. She is year 8, so it’s not an exam year but again the teachers are working full time.

my sister, uncles, cousins are all teachers - they have not had anytime off. Those in secondary schools have worked a month straight without even weekends off at the moment to make sure the children have the work, the classes etc They also all have a rota to go into schools for those children who haven’t stopped attending - in one case it’s not so much for key workers but for vulnerable children.

As I say, this is my experience, certainly not seen anyone shirking or not doing over and above their normal jobs.

Back in September is ok for me, but as I say there are children who haven’t had these resources or support.

Although, my re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings didn’t go down well!

Your year 8 goes to a better school than mine does.

I had to chase 4 different teachers to find out why my lad couldn’t log on. 2 I spoke to were fine and helpful. The other 2 were utter twats about it and acted like I was interrupting their day.

One set of answers he sent in were replied to with a “like” and when I double checked half of them were wrong.

I imagine some teachers are working overtime, and some are seriously dragging the lead.

Had a 30 minute stand up argument with the 11 year old yesterday over the use of apostrophes.

Turned out she was right, but I claimed a moral victory.

I don’t bother - they are taught much better than I was. My 13 runs rings round me on most subjects - especially grammar.

That’s a bit shit. I’m not a fan of the grammar school system but I can’t fault what they’ve done for her during this - they can’t let their marks drop otherwise they lose kids to the other grammars in the city, so I suppose it’s an incentive.

They get all their work back marked, and if it’s not sent in we get chased up to see if we need more support, and if everything is ok.

It’s certainly not as good as she being in the classroom (too much chatting with her friends in the online classroom!) but they are doing the best they can over this period.

It's 'swinging the lead' - as in standing about holding a line and plumb-bob...

Shirking.

Leaning on a broom etc.

Well since we're picking up on minor errors

It's "risible"

Come at me, big boy.

286 deaths todays total.

I know the overall trend is down and we get these fluctuations after the weekend but seeing figures like this, at this stage, it's difficult to get to grips to just how badly we've done collectively.

I hope there's at least one competent person left in the country to lead the inevitable public enquiry. The least we can do for those who have died is to make sure that every lesson that we can possibly learn is identified and acted upon.

Theres unlikely to be anyone competent running the country, so don't hold your breath.

aye, we're opening up again, so we presume we've flattened the curve

which basically means between 100 and 300 deaths a day is acceptable it seems
