I know she looks on from afar and thinks we are a shambles

I was talking earlier this morning to one of my colleagues in Taiwan, she was saying that they show the UK quite often on their news at the minute, and pretty much all of them cannot believe how badly the UK is handling things, especially as we were pretty much given advance warning of the situation. Although, she did say that Sweden to them seems to be the most ridiculous of the lot, as from what they could see, Sweden was almost boasting about not locking down and saying it makes no difference, even though the rest of the world said it did.....and now Sweden have a massive death rate.

As an aside, she was saying that they've heard that Brazil is getting really bad (as they do a lot of business with Brazil) - apparently the figures are that bad, that Brazil have stopped releasing the numbers (I'm not sure if that's true or not though to be honest)

Rubbish

many still have holidays booked and it’s looking very hopeful for a get away especially come August

Probably UK holidays will go ahead. But around half of "summer" holidays probably fall in June July.

I wouldn't be hanging my hat on a regular holiday in the Costas in August either.

I just put my kids education above a few bevvies

Especially when most have just had a few weeks chilling in the sunshine anyway.

I believe they've stopped releasing the daily figures and also removed previous figures from the records.

And the teachers? You know the ones we keep hearing say they don’t want to go back in, Do you think they will give up their summer holidays?

They won't, but they're public servants and fully paid for by the public (unless a private school of course),  and should do as they're fucking well told to by the Government. They won't though, as they'll just strike.

Do I fuck

You've more chance of a Thatcher statue being erected in Barnsley town centre.

Everybody has had to make sacrificies during this totally unique "war". But sacrificing a social distancing fortnight in Benidorm would be too much to ask, mon camarade.

The Brazilian government has been accused of totalitarianism and censorship after it stopped releasing its total numbers of Covid-19 cases and deaths and wiped an official site clean of swaths of data.

Health ministry insiders told local media the move was ordered by far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro, himself – and was met with widespread outrage in Brazil, one of the world’s worst-hit Covid-19 hotspots, with more deaths than Italy and more cases than Russia and the UK.

Also many teachers have been working since shut down in some form so it would get complicated regarding contracts I would think

We can sort the details.

We ran half the known world once, we invented computers and tellies and tutting.

Everyone's cool with signing up as a volunteer, keeping distance, preaching about gatherings and pontificating about following the rules until it might have an impact on their glass of San Miguel or Mythos. Then, like magic, they think sitting on a plane with 200+ other people is "manageable" and they develop a moderate Blitz Spirit and and and why should I miss out and and and it's do-able mate.

Yep, have a couple of mates who have already booked holiday parks down south for August

Yeah - just booked for a week camping in Bodium in Kent/Sussex in August - it’s only about 40 mins drive from here, and you get the 30 quid deposit back if you can’t go. Near to the coast, lovely countryside. Need something to look forward to!

Please don’t patronise me spider

it certainly would be a complex thing to do one which would have strong opposition

I’m not patronising anyone.

The hypocrisy this whole episode is starting to bring to the surface though, that is a thing to behold.

Fine. We start back September. My kids and millions of others now behind with their education (to varying degrees depending on the levels of home schooling), but at least the teachers haven’t had their rights imposed upon.

Millions of folk are missing out on a holiday this year, but it’s for the greater good. As a patriot and a nice human, I’m prepared to make this shitty sacrifice.

Not even allowed to visit our own static caravan yet.

talking of caravan type holidays - our neighbours always go on cruises, you can tell, because like all that type of person they never stop banging on about cruises, and insisting that we should go on a cruise because "we'd love it"  -  anyway, they're absolutely itching to get back on to these floating caravans as soon as they can, as they're missing the "freedom" you have on a cruise. As we start to come out of this, can you imagine anything worse, for a holiday, than having a cruise that has social distancing regulations in place?

My lads going into year 3 in September having not seeing his mates properly for 6 months and probably over a full year behind his peers.

Can't help but that is fucking him over academically and mentally for ages to come.

I'm fucking lock down off now and arranging regular play sessions with his pals otherwise he's going to be ruined.

Not sure what everyone’s individual experience of home schooling is but ours has been excellent, the teachers have worked non-stop.

The two kids at primary use Class Dojo. The week’s timetable is set and we send in work for marking and there are online classes. The kids work from 9-4 Monday to Friday. Middle kid is also doing home tests and extra zoom classes for the 11 plus. Works very well.

The eldest is set her week’s work, and has direct zoom classes. She does finish the work sooner than if she was at school but all work has to be submitted for marking. She is year 8, so it’s not an exam year but again the teachers are working full time.

my sister, uncles, cousins are all teachers - they have not had anytime off. Those in secondary schools have worked a month straight without even weekends off at the moment to make sure the children have the work, the classes etc They also all have a rota to go into schools for those children who haven’t stopped attending - in one case it’s not so much for key workers but for vulnerable children.

As I say, this is my experience, certainly not seen anyone shirking or not doing over and above their normal jobs.

Back in September is ok for me, but as I say there are children who haven’t had these resources or support.

Although, my re-enactment of the Battle of Hastings didn’t go down well!

Had a 30 minute stand up argument with the 11 year old yesterday over the use of apostrophes.

Turned out she was right, but I claimed a moral victory.
