Good to see JJ okocha being recognised as being one of the best in the prem.

Although they said he was there during our best period which wasnt correct as he didnt play in the UEFA cup seasons.

Gary speed also mentoned but bolton wasnt mentioned by shearer but sheff utd was.

They did have in a bolton raining top in there footage section tho.

looking at the article here:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52440999

Wright says:

"I can't believe he didn't move to a club in the top six"

thing is, Newcastle finished "top 6" 3 times in that period

Spurs and City were nowhere near the top 6 back then

They had some great players at that time , bizarrely I think they finished nearer the bottom than the top , the following season.

Think they finished about 17th, not sure but they might have gone all season without winning away.

over 4 seasons, in the league only (according to wiki)

26
33
29
19

in that last season, he played 29 in total including 6 out of 8 UEFA Cup games, there were 10 other players that played more than him, including Joey OBrien

Just had a look regarding their foray into the European cup that season , beaten home and away by Rangers ( 2-1 both matches) , in the previous round they  beat Stuttgart 4-1 at home after losing 3-0 in Germany , instead of losing on away goals , they played a third match after Stuttgart were found to have played a fourth foreign player ( the limit was 3 at the time , imagine that now).

Third match played at the Nou Camp, no less.

In fairness I reckon a few of our fold would have been queuing up behind him by the time Lennon was done with us. Always threw his elbows around as well. Still one hell of a player, mind.

I'm not sure Shearer would have backed down here, he seemed quite relaxed, Keane had lost it
