There was only strongbow and one of the piss weak lagers (fosters maybe, can't remember) on offer. I rather naively said oh I'll just have a Guinness then and he sort of grinned at me and said, we don't do that mate, so I struggled down a strongbow. Did I just catch them on a bad day then? That’s a good day

The Dog and Partridge i would class as already being in the town centre. 40 minutes ago, Traf said: Always looks shut. Never been in. A visit there wouldn't have enriched your life trust me. Used to work nearby in the 80's, so it was often a convenient watering hole. In truth it was just a hole.. Edited July 5, 20206 yr by Burndens Bogs
July 5, 20206 yr Wandered down Howfen market st yesterday afternoon ( saturday ). White Lion - in and out doors . Few young ones outside. Vic - normal scroats are uz faggin it. Spoons - Queing to get in. The Brewery Tap. Walked in settled for a perch in left hand window. The Dog arrived. Landlord walked over with 2 pints of Blonde . Waved my bank card at some sort of device. Excellent pint quickly knocked back. Promptly replenished. No standing at bar allowed , but if you have a seat you can wander over and order. All very civilized. No mither. Moved onto The Beer School . Very similer experience , 30p more for a pint though. As usual had a four legged friend sniffing at my bag of nuts . But thats part of the charm of The Beer School . They have also managed to get the council to let them clear off the rubble between them and the Wheatsheaf to create a large beer garden. Will be spot on when the sun returns. 3 pints later i grabbed a curry from Balti Taste and went home. No mither. Today went to check on Uncle Col in the flats. Sat outside his back door had 3 bottles of various ales and put the world to rights . And discussed the merits of older gentlemen sporting mohican hair cuts . All n All not a bad weekend.

Recently read the follow up book to the "Worktown " social study on Bolton, cant remember the name it was talked about on here a few years ago,the chapter on pubs described the Lord Clyde as the last of the ale houses left describing some interesting features from back in the day.

It's a bit rough around the edges but that's what I like about it. Nobheads get quickly bounced out by Gary the landlord who used to be a doorman at Hawthorns.

July 6, 20206 yr Stayed in, felt out of order on my work colleagues going out. Landlord of my local praising peoples respect to the rules during the lockdown, which is great but im not going to tempt fate and risk getting it.

It's about 4yrs since I've been in but it was an absolute shitehole & the landlord looked like he hadn't had a wash or changed his clothes this millennium 😁

Firepit in the back that's under cover which must be unique for Bolton. Cheap as well. Not saying I'd take a first date there but I love it nonetheless!
July 6, 20206 yr Spent 3 hours sat on my own in the bay horse with a barman bringing beer to my table and not one space invading pub wally in sight by law. Could get used to this

July 6, 20206 yr I’ve been out Cherry Tree at Blackrod. served pints of cask ale at my table by a pretty woman with ace busters and a splendid arse. Magnificent food and no washing up to do. Like Gonzo, I almost cried.

July 7, 20206 yr I like this Gary from the Clyde even though I've never met him. By chance I have just come across his rules for re-opening, someone shared them on faceache. Rule 2 of 10 is... Don't be a dick and test my patience. Fair play, you can't argue with that.
