I thought mixed race was OK?  (I recall we used to use half-caste in my youth, but that's no longer a thing, which I can see why)

Nope apparently it is “deeply offensive” this is the problem. We’ve got white middle Aged @Rudywho appears unoffended by most terms used that I would say aren’t racists or said with racist connotations and he also applies common sense to how it’s been used and you have the masses who are perpetually Offended.

So coloured is wrong as it came from apartheid. I thought was Deep South - either way it is hard to keep up. 
 

On the gay thing it did seem that the ‘choice’ he referred to was about coming out. 
 

On the women he was quoting a women’s football coach. 

Could someone in the US of Algerian or Egyptian descent call themselves African American? Would the other African Americans stand for it?

I did a super-quick bit of research on this yesterday.  Apparently South Africa is one of the few places where the term coloured is actually okay.

However, I think I'll pass on taking advice from South Africans on what is okay when it comes to racism.

Yeah Jeremy vine. It’s madness isn’t it. What’s ok with some is offensive to others. And agree about the gay comment. He was saying the life choice is whether to come out. 
 

tbf it’s a life choice whether you choose to put your knob up men’s bottoms or push back on one. So I don’t see the issue either way.
