Read players recruited before the 20/21 Salary cap will be counted to be earning £1.8k a week £68k a year. If this is true the four signings so far plus Crawford will amount to £340k of this seasons £1.5m cap.

Add to that the likes of Darcy,Politic and Sonny Graham not counting as they are under 21. I think both us and Salford will have a massive advantage this coming season...

Makes sense I suppose. The cap hasn’t even been agreed yet or hadn’t prior to yesterday’s EFL meeting so contracts signed pre decision can’t be included as you may be at risk of breaching it from day one if they were..

Clubs in League One and League Two have voted in favour of introducing a salary cap, taking effect immediately.

Limits have been set at £2.5m and £1.5m for the respective divisions.

Why should a club like eg Sunderland, be penalised in League 1?

Likewise us in Lg 2?

It prevents money coming into the game at the levels that need investment. If a club gets into financial difficulties then they have to bear the burden - as we well know.

This is bad news for Bolton and the other medium sized provincial clubs that have fallen on hard times - Sunderland, Ipswich and Portsmouth. 

These clubs will no longer have a big financial advantage over the likes of Lincoln, Walsall and Bristol Rovers

As wages and standards drop in the bottom 2 divisions it will also make the gap between tier 2 and tier 3 even bigger than it is now.

 

Think we have dodged a bullet....All our top earners will now  be  classed as divisional average. So Doyle Crawford and Sarcevic our top earners will give us wiggle room for as long as there contracts last.

The whole FFP thing needs looking at.  Sheffield Wednesday got themselves into their current mess because they got a willing cash cow who found he couldnt just outspend his rivals.

Gary Neville made the point that Man Us initial wealth came from outside groups chucking cash at them.  If there's folk daft enough to chuck their money away, why shouldnt they?

If it stops Sunderland managing to lose £11m in a year they turned over £56m then I think they’ll be quite grateful for it in the end.

Yebbut, what's FFP about then?

Surely if there's going to be a cap, base it on turnover & not a 'one size fits all'.

£1.5m is probably too much for the likes of Accrington & Morecambe so what's to stop them spending that & then ending up in the shit?

EFL are clueless & not fit to make business decisions.

Looking on the flip side, if clubs like Sunderland are restricted, they will have a big war chest once they do get up to the championship and players who have a choice of 5 or 6 clubs are going to chose them rather than Accy if they are getting similar money wherever they go.

Excuse my ignorance, but how does that sit with say an ex Premiership club that gets relegated again down to league one. Still with players on a 3 year big deal? Exempt?

Yeah so clubs will go for broke trying to make it to the prem. only 3 go up so the risk is ridiculous especially if they then drop into league 1.

Classed as divisional average from what I've read. Will it tempt clubs who are near to the drop in January to sign new players on long contracts and offer contract extensions to existing players as the season end approaches in that knowledge. If clubs do this in desperation and fail to get promoted while still paying the big bucks it will only make their situation worse.

Head's not with it today so at the risk of sounding numb as a piss stone, this getting counted as the divisional average idea. 

Does it just mean you could have signed someone on 250k a week but they only take the divisional average off your salary cap figure ?

Yeah, a blanket salary cap is bizarre.

And it's not just matchday income. Take Peterborough who sold Toney for big money. Under the new salary cap they can't really reinvest it

A mate tells me promotion bonuses don’t count in the salary cap. That’s going to suit us hopefully, as obviously every player that signs for us knows they’ll be getting a nice bonus in 9 months time.

Don’t disagree, though FFP will obviously be proven to be the crock of shit that it is once Derby’s case is heard.

Bearing in mind there’s been a salary cap in RL for 20 years, much of this has already been tried and hasn’t worked for whatever reason, including the initial RL ruling on limiting salaries to 50% of turnover. 

PFA says a salary cap is unlawful and unenforceable.

That’s why is unworkable you would have to go back to the days of maximum players wages till it was scrapped in the   Late 50s early  60s  to bring spending down but most players would just move abroad today there is no answer to it
