I’ll always have that as a sideline 😂

I’ve just been reading up on that, it seems that they’re in demand

You can retire in 7 years if you get involved

Good stuff.

How many years are you looking at working before retirement?

That’s anyone’s guess, I’d like to say 15/20 years but could be more could be less

edit* 7 years if I go with spiders advice 😀

In 15/20 years the situation with gas might be very different- Spider's option may have better long term prospects.

I’ve got a mate who has his own firm providing gas engineers doing services repairs etc, he said if I train up as a gas engineer then he will take me on. So that’s one option

You will need basic building skills to put a new flue out through a wall, plumbing skills to solder copper and some electrician ability to wire up boilers.

Trade is in big demand from October to March.

if you are practical might be an opportunity, in a few years gas engineers will be in national demand to adapt boilers for hydrogen-natural gas mixes

I can help you out

Is your mate looking to add Air Source Heat Pump training to his company portfolio?

I've tendered about £5million in "de-carbonisation" projects on schools involving air source heat pumps etc. over the last 6 weeks.

Am I missing something?

Yes and no

If you’re including ASHP then you’re on the money

If you don’t know why, I can help!

What have you got in mind?

What is it you’re tendering for? Full M&E package or a particular part of the job?

My employer specialises in school works, we are the principal contractors and the current proposals consist of windows, insulation and M&E. The 5mill I referred to excludes the M&E as this will be nominated, I expect these to be major sums as they are the overall driver of the schemes.

I am curious about what you might be able to offer/suggest personally outside the box I have described,

@royal white

I plan to set up my own business later this year. I’ll just own it and have people to run it.

I will have 2 rehab doctors/physiotherapists 2 personal trainers

Personal training courses can be done in 12 months.
They will get a monthly wage, don’t have to pay rent space, or fees or even have their own portfolio of patients that will all be supplied, just have to turn up and train patients.
Ive got two PT’s ready to go when I am but hopefully I can expand and have opportunities.

Sometimes just have to do it.

Was in 22k at HMV but had to jump, next retail management job made my job role redundant after 2 months, secured a transfer in my last week..but thought didnt fancy that.

Did removals for a while but couldnt see me doing it long term so reapplied to teaching having been turned down a few years early for a reason.

Been teaching six years with a 6 month gap, done carpet cleaning part time as extra income and that led itself to leather repair and cleaning .. booked on a leather cleaning course and it was a cleaning and restoration course.

Could easily go full time if I wanted and earn as much as teaching working fewer hours. I'm unwilling all the time with it (repaired a 6 week old couch a few weeks back and do regular insurance work). I'm desperate to leave teaching as it's just, not for me.. even though I live teaching and am quite good at it, my disability causes a huge barrier and too many problems.  However the big block is money.  I'm on about 35k now having taught for 6 years, but my pensions lucrative.. self employed would mean no security, having to take out a private pension etc.

I'm nearly 40, can I face that when I have a secure job? Well think tbh it comes down to mental health.. no point planning for the future if you don't make it there...

Sorry for the long reply.. I'm really bored shitless)

Hi

Clearly a big decision to be made.

I hear what you say about a decent pension, but at or around 40, enjoying what you do might be more important, as will health, and then you should be able to build a decent financial future.

It would be a brave move to walk away from a decent salary like you're on, in todays climate.  However, theres probably never a perfect time so if it feels right, go for it.  You could easily get back into teaching if it didnt work out or you were suddenly short of funds.
