So where did all those extra republican votes come from?

A lot happened in the build up to that election, it was a big deal

COVID, BLM etc, much of which mobilised people to vote for change, and Biden was a popular chap as Obama's VP

But anyway

where did all those extra republican votes come from?

No idea mate ... I do find it odd 15m Democrats sat this one out though.

I'm pretty sure most on here don't.

But then I didn't want to live in my home town for my life.

I enjoy the difference my life has taken me, and all the amazing things I get to do and see for free.

It's not prefect, but it perfectly suits us.

I'm calling House in Crawley bingo.

Twitter is bonkers isn’t it 😂

Love the very important note in there that millions of votes are yet to be counted. Plus a lower voter turnout.

But not why so many republicans sat the previous two out

The other questions are

Who rigged it

Why did they rig it

Why wasn't tits one rigged

Must be rigged then 🙈

Odd that you can’t deny it either

With Trump winning both houses, presidency (and popular vote), the whole GOP basically in his thrall (and scared of his passionate base), and following the supreme court's recent decision on presidential immunity ... is Trump now the most powerful US president in history?

BBC were saying something about him using courts to come after certain folk- we can imagine who- and that he's supposedly said he'd use the military to do so!

He's certainly a not right.

Hopefully he will put all that to one side, and just get on with the job.

Won't hold my breath though.

Not "now". But he will be in a couple of months.

don't think he will, no need to and just his usual bluster.

what he will do is replace public servants with political appointments in all sorts of roles. Pretty dangerous stuff imo and will take some unravelling if / when normal returns.

Possibly Newsom but I don't think colour and gender comes in to it. Obama won two terms. Its the quality of the person and (if going for a second term) the track record.

People in the US just didn't feel better off than four years ago. That's always going to spell big trouble for an incumbent.

Her being a female, mixed race member of the liberal elite, such that it is, definitely prevented her from winning enough votes in some voting blocs that Biden was able to do well in

But it was only one factor, and the fact she was in a sense a left-wing Liz Truss was a bigger one

Be interesting to see if Musk gets an official job.

Indeed, I think you're right.

I said similar earlier, but in general terms

I just wonder how much hate he has in his heart, and whether he wants a pound or two of flesh.

The public servants bit- don't they bring their own with them anyway?

As opposed to our civil service which remains as it is (supposedly) independent.

And the biggest losers - when he starts slashing social security and medical assistance programs - will be people that voted for Trump. At least they've got their internet memes to fall back on.

To be fair, I can identify with that. Let’s be honest , Bolton is a bit of a shithole.

He’d have to place his companies in trust. Apparently.

Apparently it's OK if you move half way around the world for work but if you move to south east England you're a WW pariah.

It's hardly "this shite", is it?

It's a fact.

We'll not hear any more about Epstein stuff and any Diddy related controversies for at least this next term. Another on top of that if he gets his way repealing the 22nd amendment.

I'd love to not be arsed about the bat shit decisions Americans make in their political system, but unfortunately the vast swathes of uneducated midwest and southern Americans have enormous impact on NATO and EU security and trade, despite not having the faintest idea about it.

Meandering as usual.

They do

My ex was a SCS - they are really good at what they do and manage the incompetent ministers under their charge - whatever political hue.
