The US hasn't come up with a decent election candidate/President for a decade or more. I didn't agree with anything like all of Obama's policies but he was presidential and carried the role with dignity 

Regardless of your politics Reagan/Bush x2/B Clinton/Obama were all cut from a different cloth to the present offerings. Yes, even Dubya! I'd rather have had the impeached Richard Nixon then this present generation!

Possibly Newsom but I don't think colour and gender comes in to it. Obama won two terms. Its the quality of the person and (if going for a second term) the track record. 

People in the US just didn't feel better off than four years ago. That's always going to spell big trouble for an incumbent.

My night work are Press Nights - most folk would kill to do and see the stuff I do. It's not easy, but it's late nights - that's the gig.

I studied hard (one of those degrees that Bolty hates) work hard, never taken a penny of the state, run a small business, and make sure that when other folk have worked hard they have their enjoyment.

Obama was perfect for the time. He's an outstanding orator, and his election came after 2 terms of Bush Jr, a global financial crash, and a decade of boots on the ground in the Middle East.

It's definitely not just about the quality of the person and their track record. They just re-elected Trump.
