Be interesting to see if there is an appeal (assuming that it is a possibility).

Could be an interesting precedent here; what other actions could be justified as a result of dedication to a cause?

So if I went and smashed up Nelson Mandela’s statue could I claim that I was incensed by his involvement with a terrorist organisation as a defence? I would hope not.

The judicial system appears totally fucked anyway. You could cite examples of all sorts of criminality and wonder how the perpetrators were let off. Happens all the time. 

Not arsed what the statue represents controversial or not you can’t go round ripping them down and not have consequences 

Imagine if they pulled it down and it landed on someone they’d be suing the council.

Sometimes a technicality gets in the way and fucks things up.

This seems like an example of creating "new law".

Don’t wash for a week, dress like a tramp, get offended at absolutely everything from the past that you disagree with because it’s fashionable on social media and yes you can seemingly get away with anything.

Cotton mills of Manchester / Lancs supported Lincoln and his abolition of slavery actions ,in the main  despite it costing them due to him blockading southern cotton states and causing a shortage of cotton ( and so work ) he wrote a letter of thanks for that support and for them putting principles of anti slavery before their own profit so when two statues were given to England , one was given to Manchester and the letter is on the plinth
