Sheff Weds (H)

Not seen a thread for this yet, so here goes.

We’ll need everyone to have a great game to win this - and thats not happened for what seems like a long time.

We’ve also a few injuries as we all know.

Head says 1-2

Heart says 2-1

People be so fickle. Yeah we got a depleted squad and nothing to play for. But look, we are in a great position, its a Saturday afternoon, sun is shining, 2 massive, historical teams playing against e

I’ve nothing against them, proper club. I just enjoy visiting fans fuming when late goals go in

  • No one scores more late goals than us. Who the fuck is leaving 10 minutes to go. Weirdos

I thought we were second best in most areas for most of the game and I'd not have been surprised to go home empty handed.

However, some positives...
Trafford had a great game, hopefully quietening those who say he's has nothing to do.
Aimson/Johnston stood up to a very physical forward line.
MJ finally got a shot on target
Bodvarsson ran his arse off

but best of all, is the fact that this team is never beaten at 1 down.

Yes, that would be me.  Very impressed with not only his shot stopping but his confidence and assurance today.  I couldn't judge him before this week because he had little to do, in the last 2 games he has definitely shown what he's about (let's forget the distribution, presumably he's been told to pass it 5 yards to a defender to put them under pressure).

And the MJ shot on target was a site to behold.  I reckon I could have scored that mind, I still wouldn't want him shooting from any further out!  He played well again today.

I couldn't understand that.  We've had some terrible players over the years, but I'm struggling to think of any that I would boo next time we played against them unless they had come out and said BWFC or shit or something similar.  So just Keith Andrews then.

One of them played up top for Latics last week for a kick off. And another in goal.

Latics? Please, Pie eating cunts for clarity.

Never minded Oldham tbf and ,'tics' is new and only user by 'them'. Bag O' Shite.

We seem to be in the habit of scoring goals very late in games these days. Long may it continue.

Would be better if we didn't concede one first. Evatt, missed trick, etc.

Does seem to show great fitness and determination.

One of their centre halves (Hutchinson) had a cracking game. Lots of sly pushes in the back when the balls in the air type of thing - solid, pro’s performance. Out of contract in summer by the looks of things, 32 years old but I’d try and get him or that type

Yeah he was excellent

Yet again we never gave up and these days I always think we have a good chance to get something late in a game.

They were the better team but we could quite easily have been 1-0 up at half time. Bodvarsson will be disappointed not to have scored with his header.

Terrible referee again.

Not a bad result against a decent team and suggests next season we won't be far off.

Come On You Whites!!!

We did have Santos, Lee and Dapo playing that day, arguably our best 3 players this season?  And they would say they had strengthened too, they had 4 players today that started against us last time, and they look a much better team now, reflected in their results since the transfer window.  They couldn't beat us today but we couldn't beat Morecambe twice and nearly lost both, but I still think we are better than them.  Sheff Wed are currently better than us, no shame in that.

Form from February has them on 30 points us on 29 points, football wise I think we’re the better team, results wise nothing in it, in my opinion they aren’t better than us.

I don't think they were poor just a big physical outfit especially at the back with wee Barry pulling strings in midfield. Given our injuries, fact game was more important to them and the officials I was ok with the point. Plus always pisses me off when we lose at home to a large/loud away following.

Happy with the point .

Cannot believe the empty seats all round with 5 mins to go.

MJ - MOTM.

Just maintains the theme that - by their own admittance - if you say ‘Wigan’, people think you’re referring to the rugby team. Long may it continue.

Yesterday we were minus Santos, Dempsey, Sheehan, Lee & to all intents & purposes Afolayan. In honesty probably on the fortunate end of that result but no-one can fault our resiliance this season.

The 3 draws this week, all against teams in & around the top, were while we had, realistically, no play-off to play for. It's clear where our weaknesses are & we have reason to believe Evatt will target those in the summer window.

It'd be nice to be involved, but we aren't and should go into next year feeling we can be up there. It's pretty clear we are not, yet, ready for the Championship but certainly heading in the right direction.

When you think where we were 2 years ago, we have progressed beautifully.
Not too disappointed at missing out on the play-offs, this season has been superb and has brought some great memories.

We will get stronger & our time will come.

Motm? Split equally between Traf & MJ, both excellent yesterday.

My favourite statistic about us currently is that since Evatt took over no club in England has scored more goals in the last fifteen minutes than we have.

And Fossey. Agree 100% with your sentiment here.

IMO our best 11

traf, Fossey, Jones , Santos , George j, Declan J

Lee Morley Williams (or Dempsey)

Dapo Celine

you have 5 out of 12 missing.

I knew I'd missed one.

Plus John clearly needs a break & a reset. Too many niggles since his injury & covid. Dempsey too I think.

It's good to see 'powder-puff' MJ getting back to form though. Idle, talentless wanker that some seem to think he is.

John needs some competition/cover next season be one of my priority areas

I don’t think anyone has actually suggested that have they

Their lad Johnson looked good

He’s been referred to as a powder puff which is comical.

Along with Morley and Jones I think he’s our most important player.
We definitely need to back that area up in the summer though, but that’s because of the demand and reliance on a DM not because of MJ’s ability

Mendez Lang looked like a pea head since bulking up.

All we’ve left to do is ruin other peoples seasons. Tuesday and Sat I think we could potentially of done just that.

You're right. But the key to being a top two side is that when you have players missing you still having the squad to outclass the rest of the division. Squad depth and quality in all positions certainly plays a big part in sorting out automatic promotion contenders from play off contenders.
