The Cost Of Living Crisis

Anyone felt the pinch yet?

Notice a good proportion of my hotels are quiet this week. But with the jubilee round the corner and pride the week after maybe folk are simply saving their trips for that.

Cant help but feel the media are driving a lot of it. They seem hell bent on us heading into a recession. Making people panic and stop spending.

They should be telling everyone its all gravy.

Only area Ive felt it is diesel. £154 to fill my van the other day. That's taking the piss.

Paid not to work?

Nobody gets paid not to work.

It actually costs people to work.

Ask any lass on 16 hours if they can cover a shift or take on more hours?

No chance. Do that and they lose money.

Same with a family on Job Seekers.

We've created a monster.

Correct certain freeholds on tax credits

few lads at our place ask for time back as they lose out on benefits

Don't worry, Liz Truss is going to announce something that will sort it all out. Forget the last 12 years.

You can listen to the rest or just assume i thought Rishi was sat in his basement with a moody printing press knocking out snide 50 dollar bills

I asked the Ofgem chap the same thing when he told me about the freeze plan.

His first answer was "they'll just print it like they did with covid"

Then, in a more serious voice, he just said the Americans would be the biggest beneficiaries. And i still havent' a fucking clue what he meant by it.

At a guess, because we'll print so much money that Sterling becomes worth fuck all, against USD

We're currently $1.15 / £1   -  our financial types have advised us to expect $1.07 before the end of this month, and possibly parity by the end of Q4 😶

Everything will. It won't just be the pound suffering.

Everything denominated in a dollar will rise before the whole thing collapses.

Nobody is calling anyone thats fully entitled to welfare.

Those exploiting it are the biggest scourge on our society. Not just economically either.

The welfare state has snowballed into something now that would take decades to sort out. Folk with no drive, no desire and no work ethic. Everything given to them on a plate.

They spoil it for those that need it.

Not doubting people take the piss, but again, like that cartoon, it's a piss in a puddle compared to the unpaid taxes from massive corporations.

We always seem to want to punch down.

And if/when the Government introduce a Tax-payer funded price cap on energy bills, they'll all refuse it and pay real market value instead...

Big companies are using the loop holes that have been there for decades.

Semantics, I know, but anyone not working but claiming money must be being paid not to work.

Aye fair enough. Not to mention the millions weve just paid for PPE contracts :)

Suppose its easy to attack what you can see.

I was thinking that..

Companies set up them weeks later getting huge ppe contracts. Loads of deals for friends and acquaintances.

Huge camera system installed across Greater Manchester,  been told the company that sorted it had links to a politician. No idea how true.

That said rising bills don't really register to those that claim the cost back.

They’ve let all the fraud go over Covid which is serious cash and my logical guess is it was to protect some of the deals and contracts they gave out.

So this mega billion rescue package.

Paid to the proletariat or direct to the energy suppliers?

Aye. It's classic deflection.

And which is costing the country more?

I once heard a conversation where someone said in the UK there are over a 100 different tax codes and they aren’t for the likes of you and me.

Cheeky workers at polyflor this way have rejected an 8% rise, pay rate is currently very good always been a good payer

I’d say the loopholes. But, rightly or wrongly it’s all legal.
