The Queen

Seems to have taken a turn for the worse.

She is 96.

  • RIP. Very sad.  Whether you're Royalist, anti-Royalist or somewhere in between.  For the vast majority of us, she's been our Queen for all our lives.  Feels strange that it's no longer the case.

  • She did this. And she probably didn’t have to because she was the Queen. But she did. What a woman.

I'm not mourning, nor do I feel any grief.

I empathise with the members of the Royal Family who lost an aunt or a grandmother, as I've gone through that myself in the past, but I've no personal feelings about it all.

Pensioners die all the time, it's part of the aging process, sadly. At least she's had a good life, well looked after. I'd be more inclined to grieve over those likely to freeze/starve over the coming winter, because they can't afford to put the heating on etc, but that's another issue.

That said, I wouldn't feel inclined to go and disrupt somebody else's grieving process and I also apologise if any of my cynicism offends any of you who are grieving the loss of the monarch or a family relative.

Nicely put

So we are going to get a sometimes twice weekly episode of royal grief rammed down our throats for years are we? No comparison at all.

What's that song we sing for two minutes before every England game? Can't think of it off the top of my head🤔

No surrender to the IRA?

Well said. It's fair to say I've been a harsh critic of Charles in the past, but I do feel sorry for someone clearly snapping under a great deal of stress. As you say, people oblivious to the whole thing can simply stay out of it. I'll not be heading down the London for anything, though I'm sure I'd have wandered over for a butchers at any passing cortege if it had come this way. History after all. I appreciate that the BBC etc are between a rock and a hard place, but some of the fillers on the website etc are so desperate they are almost disrespectful.

As for the funeral, I'll not be crying into my cider - but equally will appreciate its part in history. Partly because history is history for good or ill. I distinctly remember back in the Jubilee in '77, as a 14 year old, thinking one day I'll witness her death (as that is what happens, and the alternative was not pleasant!) and wondering, given her relatives' longevity, how that might be quite far off and how things would be in that far future. 45 years was a good result for both her and me. But during that reflection on Monday, the sad truth is that back then I'd have wondered if our concerns about energy, finance, political uncertainty, terrorism and the threat of Russia had all been alleviated. Sadly not. Promised cutting edge medical breakthroughs have come but you have to access them in time. The digital world gives capabilities that I'd have loved to have had back then, but not at the expense of current 14 year olds being physically addicted to them.  I'd have been happy to hear my old mum is still going despite being the same age as HRH (and always saying she'd not go before her). But reports from her carers are a bit worrying.

So all in all, Monday will see me reflecting on those 45 years (and how a scrawny long haired pillock has become a fat baldy bastard), raising a toast to the departed and to history, but unfortunately not much of a toast to progress or great concerns alleviated. Still, if back then you'd have told me I'd be there to see us draw at Bayern, knock Athletico out, beat Red Star in their back yard, and miss me plane coming back from Besiktas - I'd have snapped yer hand off 🙂

I'll shut up now

Good post.

I was 11 on the silver jubilee and can remember it was a big thing at the time, got given a commemorative tea spoon at school and there were 3 of us so we'd of all got the same.

Those spoons lived in the top drawer of my mother's sideboard for years, she past away last Christmas   didn't have the same house (she'd gone into a flat) but the sideboard was still there.

Clearing that flat out a couple of of weeks after she had died seemed like there was not much of any value. Few sentimental bits and the rest was going to charity or tip.

Wish i had looked for them spoons now🤔

This is where I'm at 100%

Nor do I get upset if footballers want to stand with their arms around someone or not, or a few pissed up ballons wanting to be centre of attention.

Centre Parcs are the latest to lose their fucking minds.

If you were on a Friday to Friday holiday, they want you to fuck off on Monday and come back Tuesday. 😃

Great posts from Traf & Satan sum up where I am better than I could.

Think Centre Parcs have rowed back on the Monday thing Mick.

Come on Mick own up, you've been on Wikipedia haven't you?

Now they're saying you can stay on site but all the facilities will be closed.

Ha.

Nah, takes effort and I'm one of life's loafers.

Every day is a learning day thanks to Twitter and FB.

Today I learnt Jimmy Saville was Charles best mate, Jimmy regularly visited Buckingham palace along with Epstein and Maxwell. It’s all true because the poster puts FACT at the end.

History is important, but travel details are not. It's dull as shit.

Just as that car journey was on Sunday.

The flight taking the Queen's coffin to London was the most tracked in history, website Flightradar24 has said.

I work for the NHS. I'm not sure if I've mentioned it vefore? 😁

I was on some training on Friday, abut reducing health inequalities in the NHS. Just been told that it's been canceled as an 'act of respect to Queen'. I'm not quite sure how that serves any purpose?

A lot of people/companies/organisations do seem to be trying to 'outmourn' each other at the moment.

Have funerals and hospital appointments been cancelled on Monday too? Or have I been lied to

Charles used to write to Saville and ask for  advice on how to present him self in public, and what things to talk about, and all sorts really, Saville was essentially an advisor and Charles hung on his every word

this is covered in the Saville documentary on Netflix

more here:

dunno if Charles knew he was a peado, am guessing not

Epstein and Maxwell were regular guests of Andrew's a various events and functions, and even stayed at Balmoral

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-59590576

Andrew more than likey knew all about there trafficing and at the very least turned a blind eye and sampled some goods

but I doubt he told his mum

Bit daft isn't it.

Certain organisations should just carry on.

Other companies perhaps not regarded as "essential" can do as they like, though it would be good of them to let anyone wishing to watch the funeral take the day off.

Anyway, watched the procession with the gun carriage- by the fuckery our military personnel are top notch. 👌

I believe so, but would be delighted to be convinced otherwise.

We’re closing the factory on Monday and whilst I understand it, it’s causing us a massive fckin headache.

I think I'll take Monday off too and get pissed.

Pubs better be open.
