dreaming

was £4,780 a month until my mum passed away in February of this year. Cannot imagine what inflation will push it up to next year for any poor souls needing it .

Genuinely no idea about how much they should be charging and what’s to expensive or not. But as mentioned about £150 a night for accommodation with around the clock care and all your meals (and I’m guessing medication) along with the upkeep of the building seems reasonable (not that I would want to be paying it like)

my old man was paying something like 5k a month for two carers to come to him 3 times a day and they just did what they needed to do, maybe an hour there each time

so relatively speaking, care homes do seem a more cost effective way of being looked after

that said, he would never have wanted to go in a care home

That's incredible really, over £150 per night

But when you think staffing is paid 24 hours , even on minimum wage it’s more than that , granted there’s not one per resident , but there’ll be ratios and with that, food, utilities and of course profit for the owners etc etc , can see where the costs come in.

Agreed. About 3 grand a month per resident, yet the carers get an absolute pittance. I'm sure we can all guess where the cash is going.

Where?

I've never sat and worked the numbers but I suppose, for full bed and board with 24 hour care, it doesn't sound too bad really

Same in child care as well

Capitalism/Privatisation innit. Charging as much as they possibly can, while paying the people who do the actual work as little as they're legally allowed, and cutting every corner possible.

A bit like the NHS. Executive salaries in 6 figures whilst paying those who do the actual work as little as they can get away with.

Yep.

So privatised or nationalised, some are always more equal than others. We may have finally found common ground. 👍

A nice Daily Mail trope not based in reality that gets repeated so often it's become an accepted truth.

A lot less than they would get for similar levels of responsibility (budget/headcount), deteriorating over time and making recruitment difficult.

Pleasing to see that under a Labour government capitalism is flourishing.

No communism here.

Another tick for Mr Starmer.

You'll be happy with the pay rises for Public Sector workers then, and the incoming clamp-downs on Executive bonuses?

Delighted. Wife works in the public sector and I’ll get the triple lock pay rise. What’s not to like?
I do however worry about the up coming budget and the expected tax rises that will stifle growth and the current gravy train will end. Austerity by another name. Blame the Tories, blame Corbyn blame anyone but the current lot. I suspect the blame will start before Bolty’s Q1 prediction though. Post budget and cold winter days will be the catalyst.

So the Party that have been in power for 2 months deserve as much blame as the Party that were in power for the previous 14 years? Surely you realise how mental and idiotic that sounds?

I was talking about the future. The up coming budget and resulting fall out. Both economically and popularity of the government. All my opinion of course.  Even though I’ve explained it again, I doubt you’ll understand.

I just find it interesting that you didn't level the same amount of criticism at the last Government. Never mind.

It's going to be a shit sandwich of a budget I am fairly sure.  It's much needed though. I am happy to pay a bit more to help get the country back on its feet after the shambles of the last decade or more.

Won't stop the hoards of columnists bleating all sorts of shite and making out actual declared donations is anything close to the misdemeanors of the previous Government. Yes it is whataboutery on my behalf but the congnative dissonance on display is mind blowing.

You’re not the first one to say that. I’m always tickled by people’s opinion of my opinions. I actually get giddy.

Maybe I’m a closet Tory pretending to be totally neutral. Maybe I’m actually a closet communist trying to undermine and confuse the easily confused. . Maybe I just see things differently to you and others. That’s totally normal.

Well to totally normal people it is.

Glad you’re happy to pay more tax. We need more people like you. I’m guessing you’re rich because that’s who they said they were going to take the tax from.
