Funny set up in China.

Total authoritarian regime, but one that has size, raw materials and increasing technological knowledge

People allowed to share some of that-so long as they conform to the required way.

They don't give a toss about there own people, when it suits them not to.

..and that's increasing by the day, as they're actually investing in it. Last year, they exported in excess of $136B of ICs (just the ICs, not including all the other components) - that's a lot of money, especially considering the "ban" on Chinese tech into the US (which of course still goes on, via various workarounds)

You're right about the people though, they have to be careful with a lot of things they do, I've even been out on meals and a local party official will be present, and he'll be plied with the best wine and food, and also given a "hostess" for the evening as well.

They are so populous a country, that they don't really give too much of a fuck if a factory worker dies, there's another 5 people waiting outside the factory gates in the morning waiting to take their job. I've not seen it with my own eyes, but I do understand that there is unbelievable poverty in some of the places, akin to the shit you might see in India, The Sudan and Breightmet

“Patriots and hooligans all gathered in the street.” That’s not going to go down well with some off here… 😁

I imagine being a double agent either in reality or fantasy in this chaps case, must be up there as one of the most stressful gigs going.

Chuck in a prison break though as well and he's a proper Jason Bourne type spy which has to be a bit exciting

Hopefully he gets to do some Bond level shagging on the side

Oh no doubt. Excitement and stressful bundled into one.

Im not sure top shagging might be the best for him beating in mind where he will probably be living for the next 20 years😂

That might be the most awesome job going. Fascinated by the Cold War. Must of had nerves of steel. Especially  dealing with the soviet/Ossies as I wanted fancy a bit of their methods to get some chat going.

He was dealing with the Soviets and the Chinese. When he was away my mum used to pick my auntie and the kids up and take them for tea. Routinely followed by a Zil limousine. Didn’t faze my mum one bit

The Peoples Republic of China are the world's greatest capitalists. not bad for "commies"... We don't know who or what we are anymore, what industrialist in their right mind would shut down their last blast furnace and totally stop coal production and associated power generation while our competitors are upping theirs?

I’ll grab the stats for you later

But China is investing more than anyone in green tech and their coal production is dropping year on year.

Move with the times or don’t. But rest assured they’re moving with or without you cocker

Production or consumption? I guessed you missed this.

Imagine having the nerve to put your name to this. I mean, not because I disagree with his politics - just because it's so unutterably shit! 😂

I don't think we have a Meanwhile in Wales thread and I can't be bothered creating one so this will have to do, but it seems the good people of Aberystwyth are doing something about it

"Ahmed worked for an organised crime group who used asylum seekers as couriers and dealers and using car washes and barber shops as "front" businesses"

I should add I might have some sympathy for the Iraqi goatherder in question, as living under ISIS before then likely being trafficked by an organised crime group is a rough gig

But obviously none for the actual organised crime group

Aye

A better story would be they smashed the guys at the top and not the foot soldiers

At least they're now safe on our soil and the British taxpayer is funding their existence whilst they're here ... all good 👍🏻
