Last year, they exported in excess of $136B of ICs (just the ICs, not including all the other components) - that's a lot of money, especially considering the "ban" on Chinese tech into the US (which of course still goes on, via various workarounds)

 

You're right about the people though, they have to be careful with a lot of things they do, I've even been out on meals and a local party official will be present, and he'll be plied with the best wine and food, and also given a "hostess" for the evening as well.

They are so populous a country, that they don't really give too much of a fuck if a factory worker dies, there's another 5 people waiting outside the factory gates in the morning waiting to take their job. I've not seen it with my own eyes, but I do understand that there is unbelievable poverty in some of the places, akin to the shit you might see in India, The Sudan and Breightmet

He was dealing with the Soviets and the Chinese. When he was away my mum used to pick my auntie and the kids up and take them for tea. Routinely followed by a Zil limousine. Didn’t faze my mum one bit
