The Labour Party of 2017 was an entirely different party in all but name

The pensioners we should be concerned about are those who fall just outside the pension credit threshold (and those who qualify but haven't registered to claim)

Haven’t we been saying that from day one of the announcement?

Fuel prices increase?,  Inflation? 40% of what. You need to give more information. Yes, more information.

The pension increase is round about 3k a year, i think

Beyond that, look it up

Newport shut down their last blast furnace today

We are the first major economy to start moving away from old steel and coal production.

The new government have guaranteed that if they don't employe the same amount of people back (which they wont) they will pay back the money the previous government said they could have on the basis that the state will give money to rebuild a new way of producing steel.

But ultimately, loads of people are going to be out of work after being skilled doing a job for 30 odd years in a place without opportunity.

It's shit - but I'm sure the true blues would say that's just capitalism. Get on your bike etc etc

Maybe, maybe not.  We’ve discussed it many, many times. We used to use Mick Jagger as an example. What about the other 75%?

The ones that Labour themselves said in 2017 would freeze to death if the wfa was removed.

A necessary evil.

Electric arc is the future, and any subsequent developments.

We've often touched upon steel making, and whether the modern methods can produce "virgin" steel; it seems the recycling method produces product of the same quality, and just needs scrap to do so.

Last coal fired power station goes today too.

Countries can't stand still.

So it’s gone up to £11,502 for the state pension and £8814 for the old pension ie those over 73. 40% of not a lot is really not a lot really.
Still one of the lowest in Europe.
I think the poverty wage level for a single person is £13,000.

I've had to stop our middle daughter from doing her hair twice every day!

It's jumped quite a bit.

You could show a bit of solidarity towards her by reducing the number of times you do yours from 5 to 4 😁

Interesting that China and India are upping their blast furnace production including "super furnaces"... but they do enjoy cheaper Russian gas and oil.

We then import cheap MG cars (which it appears are becoming prone to rust)

They can go fruit and veg picking in East Anglia. It's about time more of our own did this sort of work, rather than relying on cheap labour from Europe (didn't some dick the other day suggest if we employ UK people in these type of low pay jobs, it'll actually drive the low wages up as well 🤣)

It was mentioned and then someone got all pernickety about the use of the word 'work' in relation to inflation - totally missing the point as per.

Anyway, sod working out in the fields - they should join Thanet Earth https://www.thanetearth.com/

China currently has something like 60% of the world lithium battery share increasing to 80% according to some sources... that coupled with being the world's biggest steel producer at over 50% means they can flood our market with cheap EV cars.

Should we consider import levies on Chinese cars etc? Especially as they agreed a $400 billion gas deal with Russia on the back of our sanctions.

Our industry continues to be decimated by Chinese imports which effectively mean we are still polluting the atmosphere and supporting the Russian gas industry while putting our own citizens into poverty.

Mad innit?

i didn't say its great, but its been steadily increasing and this years (8.5%) increase is greater than the WFA - which will still go to pensioners with the lowest income

a bigger issue for pensioners, imo, is that the tories having frozen tax thresholds forever and a day, means that next year folk only getting state pension will be paying tax - i think, happy to be corrected?
