i didn't say its great, but its been steadily increasing and this years (8.5%) increase is greater than the WFA - which will still go to pensioners with the lowest income

a bigger issue for pensioners, imo, is that the tories having frozen tax thresholds forever and a day, means that next year folk only getting state pension will be paying tax - i think, happy to be corrected?

The expected increase will take the higher pension up to around £12,000. The personal allowance is £12,500 so no.

seems fair enough

i won't ever be paying tax on all 3 but only cos i'll not be working and receiving state pension at the same time

fuck that

I am only carrying on until June so that I use a Government buildings warmth and light during the winter months as they have stolen my winter heating allowance before I have even had it 😁

April 26 at the earliest and even then it may not happen. Depends on circumstances between now and then.

Reeves may up the threshold, the triple lock (if she keeps it) may only rise by the lowest, ie 2.5%

Scrap heatpumps and EVs.

Stick with the old tech.

Capitalism, the route of all evil.

The Peoples Republic of China are the world's greatest capitalists. not bad for "commies"... We don't know who or what we are anymore, what industrialist in their right mind would shut down their last blast furnace and totally stop coal production and associated power generation while our competitors are upping theirs?

It's owned by Tata so if it's not making a profit...

China install and supply more green energy systems than anyone else.

Obviously, they, and others, also use old technologies.

We have great tech folk here, and it makes sense to move on with new, greener alternatives. Someone has to take the lead.

Moreover, that spurs further R&D, as attracts interest from others.

As for steel, so long as there is an ample supply of scrap, there is no reason that the UK can't produce plenty of new material.

Are you suggesting that companies should run at a loss?

If it is loss making, then they could just have closed the plant, and ceased steel production entirely.

At least they, together with government, have decided to push on with new technology, greatly reducing emissions in the process.

Not sure why you thought that? If it's not making money or worse losing money then why would any company continue with it?

Time to move on and like you say, save some jobs at least. Good on Starmer. 😉

Whilst interesting its also no surprise.

indeed, and the coal consumption in China will continue to massively increase - TMGJ rightly points out that China does invest and produce more "Green Energy" products than any other country, by a mile, but they're piling through fossil fuels as well, and they've got a shit load of them to get through, so don't expect them to slow down anytime soon.

Also, as Dimron has pointed out, for  a communist country, they have a very capitalist attitude when it suits. I'm always amazed by how much money is sloshing around the place, even amongst "normal" people

Funny set up in China.

Total authoritarian regime, but one that has size, raw materials and increasing technological knowledge.

People allowed to share some of that-so long as they conform to the required way.

They don't give a toss about there own people, when it suits them not to.
