Did cheese say “I have no opinion” earlier on?

Really?

OK, no I don't think it's a positive thing for the United Kingdom. It's a daft question which didn't really merit an answer.

Ah the old living space thing.

Again looking at one issue when there is a host of more complex ones.

We have tons of space in this country - again this is data so im sure some will just go...but yet, in my area.

The fact is as humans we like living together, we cram ourselves together and infrastructure builds around this and if we dont build more livings areas the we have problems. The post war building programmes had good ideas with new towns. We seem to have regressed as a nation into nimbys and short term, im ok jackism.

Anyway, best blame the Boats and carry on with the day. Enjoy it - its very lovely at them moment.

Cheers.

i know you like clarity on here, so that clears it up.

moving on , if we assume the number reaches 100k this year, which seems likely based on current data, what on earth do we do with all those people?

By the way, HMO’s are about to become a massive talking point, just to forewarn you.

What’s the deal with these vape shops that are springing up and always seem to have a bloke or two stood in the doorway looking shifty as fuck? And yes, all the ones I’ve seen are blokes with foreign appearance (I’d guess Albanian but North African/Middle Eastern possible) and no customers.

Theres 3 opened in Horwich virtually next door to each other very recently and they stand out like a sore thumb.

Shitty neon displays in the window and tatty signage that looks fucking dreadful

We have 1000s arriving monthly. To get planning for schools, hospitals, houses, etc etc. can take years, sometimes decades. So yes it’s perfectly acceptable to say we have no space because we don’t,

Your common sense approach will likely be wasted on chardonnay sipper types plotting to 'smash the rich' (and the gangs) in Londons bodega's.

Hasn't this Labour government presided over a record number of illegal arrivals now? Is anyone in the least bit surprised?

Farage knows that the only thing which will work is to get out of the ECHR and turn the fuckers back by escorting them back into French waters. The gunboat approach. If it has to be done over and over again so be it. Eventually the economic migrants will think 'fuck spending my life savings or being in debt to vicious criminals for years and getting nowhere' and stop coming. There is no other (palatable) way and even this will be unpalatable to the delicate doilies who whine about refugee advocacy.

Excellent research. Now, living space?

Spain has a way lower population density than us. Germany pretty similar to us.

“Chardonnay sippers” 😂.  Love it.  I’m more of a Sauvignon blanc man tbh though.

That said, I agree with you! 😱. I think most (all?) of us are fed up with the daily images of small boat crossings and fed up with the inability of consecutive governments to fix the problem. We all know if Starmer doesn’t then Farage walks into Number 10 in 2029. Tories are washed up for decades.

I just hope we can do this in a lawful, humane way. As a country we should still offer sanctuary for those who are genuinely persecuted……but we need to actually enact one of the reasons I voted for Brexit - to have controlled migration, and to welcome those who are needed to help (re)build our society and infrastructure, to work in our public services, to drive growth in our tech companies but say “no thanks” to those would do the opposite.

Surely to god it can’t be that difficult. I really hope Labour can turn this around.  I’d hate to have Reform at the helm, yes “stopping the boats” but also causing division and chaos.

Yes, we should definitely join Russia and Belarus by leaving the ECHR. That would do wonders for our economy and global reputation. 👍

As mad as the idea seems, We are running out of options.

50,000 in 400 days.

Like Spider says just wait till they start arriving in residential areas....if the shits not already hit the fan, wait till the HMOs start taking over.

Like they've started here.

(Sorry if that last sentence makes me sounds like a visionary know it all)

We're not "running out of options". You're just being whipped into a frenzy by Farage and the like. We just need to process them faster and either get them working, or deport them. Which is happening. The number of asylum hotels has gone down by almost 50% since 2023.

And yes, I fully understand that you're being primed to switch your outrage from hotels to HMO's.

This is a good position statement for Wanderersways.

Is there anybody who actually disagrees with any of this?

I think the majority on here have been saying that from the start. The country needs immigration. It doesn’t need 1000s of barbers and vape shops. Keep those folk that are needed and fuck the others off.

Speak for yourself, I'm particularly hirsute and have a rampant nicotine addiction, plus my car is always dirty, so needs washing on a regular basis, so I welcome them all

Again its immigrants that are the only issue 🙄

Simple answers to much more complex problems

As you've handily outlined yourself 😁

But those coming here legally are contributing more to those issues than those on the boats. I don't want them coming over here illegally any more than you do but if we stopped all boats tomorrow the same issues you have raised will continue.

I think the hotel/HMO use is an issue but we need to also get a grip of immigration across the board to make sure those coming in are here to work in areas we need and not disappear into the black market.

National ID cards would help but slack rules with regards to company ownership, money laundering etc need tightening up.

I’ve clearly highlighted the issues for planning permission for infrastructure within the UK. There’s not enough affordable houses, dentists, Drs, hospitals are all struggling as are prisons. How Does it make sense to keep allowing more people in the country when it’s struggling at its current capacity?

That’s exactly what I mean, their application is accepted on their skill set. Do We need more barbers? No, so if that’s their skill set on their application then it’s refused. Are they builders, care workers, etc then come In,

But chuck them back out if they leave the profession they were admitted to do.

These are the kinds of discussions we need to be having. Practical things. Rather than calling each other racists/bedwetters delete as appropriate 😁

So is there anybody who isn't in agreement?

We're in danger of reaching some level of WW consensus here 😂

We have to break the use of cheap labour by so many industries. It did start to happen, was weakened and is starting up, but slowly.

In order to help with this, support to farmers for example, has to take place with restrictions on cheap, poorer quality imports, via the supermarkets.

Get them back to a level of profitability and sustainability, which in turn allows the payment of more attractive salaries to employees.

This constant race to the bottom serves no one.

On the other hand, we also have to get more folk back to work, and remove the social view amongst youngsters that working life means going to university.

Other professions and qualifications have to be respected, ecouraged, and paid.

Still fucking here largely.

They got booted out accordingly.

On the back of the opposition saying how much better they would be.

Already proven not to be the case.

I don't know if someone has linked to this morning's Independent front page, but they reveal that this government has actually been less effective in dealing with the "gangs", in terms of arrest numbers.

Harking back to what the situation was achieves zilch; it's evidently a lot worse now, and needs dealing with urgently. All mps need to grasp that, and stop trading blame whilst the shit piles up.
