Fair enough, but Costa Rica topped the group easily and both of the others went into this event below par. I often wonder what our game plan is to negate the opposition. You always hear how the opposition adapt to the main strengths and weaknesses of England e.g. exploit the left, overload the midfield, take out key players but I don't hear what our plan is/was. Easy to say after the event but Pirlo had something like 72 completed passes in the first half, we certainly knew about the dangers of him, Balotelli, Suarez, Cavani. It was as if we said, fcuk it we'll play as we always do.

Now that we've played all our games, I've concluded that he should go. The group was decidedly average and we've picked up one point and scored just 2 with all that emphasis on attack. Omitting Cole from the squad at the outset, then playing Baines with Rooney on the left was quite a basic mistake. No experienced calm head at the back, too gungho with Gerrard not sitting deep enough, trying to play like Liverpool but with no Suarez. It all seemed incohesive, almost as if we'd written it off from the start with a view to the next tournament. I know we've got no divine right to expect to win the thing but we should have progressed to the next stage and I don't think you'd find Germany or Italy accepting this as a write-off, let's move on to the next tournament. Plus what exactly has he achieved to deserve more time? He failed at his only other top gig. We need a bastard who can handle the so-called superstars but the FA only want yes men.

I think it's quite probable that some Tottenham players did not want to play for England but baggy face realised that he had no proof and would most likely get sued for slander and could ill afford the stresses of another date in court. Still a cunt though
