bolton va va Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 In, but without much enthusiasm or optimism. Last season there was terrible, bullied & easily beaten on the pitch, & then closed roads & diversions making it a pain to get home. We've toughened up a bit from last season but i fear the loss of Santos & Toal could be a big problem here. Quote

Since that joyous Wembley afternoon we've seen the team decimated and very few glimpses of the flowing football that destroyed Argyle so fearing the worst is understandable. But despite that we've picked up 7 out of 9 points whilst our competitors have stumbled. Hasn't been pretty but who gives a f***? And it should be remembered that we've come unstuck at Burton trying to play attractive flowing football in the past so ironically, we may actually be better prepared for Burton than we have been in recent years? RUREADY2ROLL Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 By far the hardest game left before the playoffs. We need to start playing well for 90 minutes again like Wembley and we should take it to them. Expect a defeat Tuesday but a point would be massive- Exeter beat Derby though and it’s not that disastrous even if we lose Quote

CJG Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 We are have a shit record at grounds with a Derby postcode like Burton or in Derbyshire like Chesterfield Quote
jmjhb Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 Yeah I'll be very pleasantly surprised if this is a win. Given yesterday's results a defeat wouldn't be disastrous, a draw would be a good result and a win would be amazing. Quote

They strengthened in January and are quite freewheeling just now. Quote
Ani Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 You know now how Burton will play. Everything will be long balls into the corners with the aim of winning long throws, corners and free kicks. They really targeted DJ last season and we seemed surprised. Hopefully this time we will at least look like have prepared. Last year was really wank. Quote
captainmed Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 I would be happy with a draw here as we’ve got an awful record against these. 8 points or maybe even less will get us in the play-offs now. Should be good for that given the opposition left. Quote

Hopefully this time we will at least look like have prepared. Last year was really wank. I’m sure Evatt will have prepared as best as he can, but it will be tough from set pieces and long balls with our back three of Johnston (5 ft 11), Jones (5 ft 8 ) and MJ (6 ft 1, but not a natural defender). We’ll really miss the height of Toal (6 ft 2) and Santos (6 ft 4). I can see Big Vic and Jerome or Nlundulu starting. There won’t be much height from the likes of John, Dempsey, Morley, Lee, Shoretire, Sheehan and Kachunga. Quote
Wanderlust Posted April 16, 2023 Posted April 16, 2023 If Dion is out and given our defensive situation, I'd be starting this game with Dempsey, Thomason, Kachunga, Dan and Victor just have all the big engines/runners out to press the f*** out of them and do them on workrate - with just one of Morley, Sheehan or Lee to do the fancy stuff if the opportunity arises (not Shoretire - he's too lightweight) If we concede the midfield we'll be under the cosh for long periods again and as we have ridden our luck for three games in a row now, I'm not sure we can rely on that again. Sure there's another game at the weekend but this is the business end of the season so we need to work our remaining assets and they can put their feet up in the summer. Quote
Members bolty58 Posted April 17, 2023 Members Posted April 17, 2023 An undeserved 1-0 away win with an unfairly awarded penalty which hits both posts, then the goalkeepers arse and trickles agonisingly over the line will do for me. Three points fucking fantastic. One point would be acceptable. Quote
Moderators Zico Posted April 17, 2023 Moderators Posted April 17, 2023 Derby away at Exeter Peterborough away at Accrington Want the win obviously but I'd be happy with a draw Got to be Vic's night Quote

Wanderlust Posted April 17, 2023 Posted April 17, 2023 Oxford and Cambridge both have tough matches too so there's every incentive for Stanley to do us a favour - they could get out of the drop zone if they win. Clutching at straws I know, but I'm rooting for a Tommy Leigh double Quote

I agree, we have to defend just as well from the front to ease the pressure on the vulnerable back line. That first 30 min Vs Oxford we looked good and we're pressing them all over, forcing them to constantly hit the ball out of play. Quote

I’m sorry to say that I think we’ll lose this one but I think Derby will struggle to get anything at Exeter and Accy as you say need to win to get out of the bottom four and let’s be honest, it’s never a nice place to go and play so Posh could easily end up losing as well and it’s as you were and we still have the game in hand. 🤗 Quote
