jeep Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Lucy Bronze is having a feckin nightmare! I think we've underestimated the Spanish team. They're a well organised unit that never stop chasing and harassing. Quote

She may have been looking to slow her opponent had she tried to run past, but a deliberate attempt to handle it- not for me? Especially with the way var is used. Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Taking Russo off didn't work unfortunately. She leads the line and is a genuine forward. Didn't stick up top as readily. Quote
Jol_BWFC Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 Unfortunately some poor decision making from the England players. Their goal came from Bronze mistake and it was like that for 90 mins. Typified by our sub striker winning the ball back in injury time, then immediately trying to do a back heel and giving it away. Quote

Aye, some barmy touches at times. I thought Spain would tire with the amount of closing down they did, but England seemed to more. Perhaps they were frustrated, but towards the end, bodies weren't supporting whoever had the ball so well, whilst Spain still ran strongly. Quote

England have hit peak form at a perfect juncture. Spain have peaked too early in my opinion. If you can't remember West Germany winning it in 1974 after losing to East Germany you can certainly recall the most recent winners being less than convincing in the early games. They didn't struggle against the three you mention. Just didn't thrash them. Perfect. I can see Spanish tiki taka being trumped by power and pace. We shall see. The comment about Australia is utter nonsense as well you know. Wouldn't agree that England have peaked perfectly. Don't think scoring 3 goals against Nigeria, Colombia and Haiti in 300+ minutes of football has prepared them well to challenge Spain who in the meantime brushed aside Sweden and Netherlands ... ?!?! As you would have seen, Kerr missed two sitters at 1-1. England must have had the easiest route to a WC final (men or womens) in not facing a top 10 side. Didn't think that would help them. Pretty obvious result today. Edited August 20, 2023 by Cheshire Youri Quote

According to my great grandad, it was based on the fact the we served pigs trotters at games rather than pies etc. which every other club seemed to do. Visiting fans reputedly used to say 'I'm off for some trotters' when they were heading to Bolton. I would never doubt Ike for a second although I am sure some smartarse will be eagerly seeking an alternative explanation. Quote

As for the prince- I believe some "environmental" cconsiderations have been involved, in which case he ans the family could have gone earlier, and supported the semi. Not that that changes the carbon footprint, but if he feels better becasue it's not a quick in and out, then great. It would be William though, not Harry, who has no direct involvement. If he went it would be as a fan He'd also need permission... Come on ladies. Smartarse 😉 Quote

I suppose the thrashing by Japan was just an anomaly and it was Spain who actually grew into the competition. Silly bloody flatdicks. Wiegman out (and take that clown Southgate with you). Quote

Tonge moor green jacket Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 With var yes. Var has seen numerous contentious decisions given, after the ref initially didn't. Commentators and more appropriately ex-players as pundits have consistently said such decisions a baffling. Quote

There is also a historical tale about there being a load of cotton bales or other industrial artefacts under the burnden pitch (hence it being raised) but apparently no confirmatory evidence. Quote
