Its absolutely fucking shite at the minute round the ground.

It was particularly worse yesterday, obviously down to the train strike but that whole set up round the police station is a disaster.

Junction after Junction relying on driver letting eachother out. The stupid one way system that leads to the bottle neck near the station is ridiculous.

The whole system needs a overhaul.

Traffic around middlebrook is horrendous every evening even when there isn't a game . Nothing seems to be in sync.

Is Dicconson Lane a genuine option then? Never thought about that. Not up to many games now but done two homes this year and stayed at Prem Inn on the saturday so no issues. But won't be doing that all the time (though not getting up to all the games by any stretch). Used to go on Lynstock Way by the late lamented Bromilow, but trying that last year it was rammed quite early due to the big industrial place further down now not being used.

Thing is, I have to get back via the M6 and so got in the habit of avoiding numbers round the 61/60/62 bits by heading off through Aspull/Standish and joining M6 further up. Adds mileage back to th'east midlands but cuts out potential jams. So Dicconson would make sense, despite the walk. Pint in the Royal Oak on the way...

Is there a reason why they can't make the road from the motorway junction to stadium all one way before the game.

I mean all 4 lanes and then opposite flow after the game?

i used to get the bus when they let them off first, shitter they've stopped that now

unless you're leaving early, it's 45-60 mins to get off

Yes. People who aren't going to the match want to get to the Motorway....

Wouldn't solve anything anyway. The congestion problems are in the immediate vicinity of the ground, not so much the approach roads. They do get backed up pre-match, but that's because of the stadium parking.

Not really sure how they'd go about solving it. It is a bit fucking daft that there's only 1 entrance/exit to the biggest car park. Maybe that would be a starting point. Pretty sure alternative entrances/exits are already available*, but the gates are permanently closed. We need a bunch of eggheads with clipboards to spend a few matchdays monitoring what's going on, then going back to a lab to come up with a solution.

 

*Just looked on google maps. There's one other entrance/exit point that's permanently closed, but I doubt it would make much difference if they opened it.

Parking on the school is a nightmare now as well after being ok for a couple of years, I'm thinking of going back to the community centre but don't think that will be any better.

For a while they opened the gate in car park nearest the shop, so you could get out via the top car park , but one time we did that it was not much quicker. 

I reckon the only solution would be to build another car park, so anyone coming/going from the Horwich direction aren't forced to either drive through the Retail Park, or join everyone else heading towards the M61*. And obviously that's not going to happen.

*Just checked google maps again, and I'd forgotten Aspinall Way existed. There must be a way to filter those going North towards Aspinall Way? Or does this already happen?

but if its to go to town, town side of CNR is still a good option

Problem solved 

This might do something to alleviate Horwich traffic going through the Retail Park/housing estate. Might not. I'm bored. Maybe they were always meant to be joined, but it never got done for some reason.

It’s a bit of a trek but it’s where I parked last time I drove to a game and there were a fair number of other cars there

The walk back is the only issue but it is prob about the same as going to were the bromilow used to be. If you are going via Standish it is probably better option

Dunno about the exit on to CNR but that red line is supposedy being taken to Crown Lane next year, but it's been happening next yr since i left the council 9yrs ago.

The lights on Burnden Way gives priority to the club car park after the games. We park on the club car parks and most games we're home in bury for half 5 quarter to 6

Ultimately, traffic isn't going to improve, especially on train strike days.

Crowds up, and apparently more using cars.

Parking a bit further away and having a walk may help, but it's not going to be much quicker.

Certainly not a load of money etc to start building new roads and motorway access. 

They wont' build new roads and a motorway access for something that happens around 25 times a year.

On non match days the road network is sufficient.

tbh Chorley New Road up to the Beehive isn't.  It's a solid line of unmoving traffic for the rush hour periods.

The Loco Works estate plan includes a parallel road from the Middlebrook area to Crown Lane, near Blackrod station but, being residential, they need to prevent that becoming a rat run.

There just needs to two round abouts put in outside the main entrance. Let all them on scotts and police station turn right instead of forcing everyone in to a big bottle neck.

Yeh, used to park up there many moons ago - farmer had one of the fields open for a couple of quid. I remember just after Reebok opened a lot got ticketed on the A6 after dark as parking lights were supposed to be on. The little layby by the Oak used to be good if you got there early. Was up there when Eidur got the winner against Wolves in 2000 and I had just gone for a piss, so ran up the steps to catch goal. Did my left hamstring in big time. Cadged a lift back to A6 as there was no way I could walk it. Thought I'd be OK, rather than just doss down at me old mam's in Daisy Hill, as it'll be a clear run back and it's my clutch foot that's gone. Hit the M6 and it slowed to a crawl. So I was surrounded by Wolves cars and in agony. Horrible journey and my foot seized up in bent position, so when I got out for petrol on the A50, the poor lass on the night shift looked horrified to see this figure hobble to pay, like Long John fucking Silver. Happy days.

Cheers. Number of people using it was the issue. If there's a good few then my car won't be targeted as it'll be the crappiest there! Looking on the map it's about 25% added to Bromilow walk, so not much fun but a clean getaway as you say. The Standish route sounds daft but does save a lot of potential grief I find. If I was driving someone back with me who didn't know where they were going they'd get a bit worried when I turned down the Haigh Hall cut-through in the dark 😄

Farmer at top of the hill is sound. But like any farmer he is into his coin, he only stopped the parking when the crowds dropped off. He opened a bigger field off the lane for both pink gigs ,he even mowed it first. Dicconson lane is a good option if you can manage the walk. I get dropped off and picked up near Keogh's I'm home within 10/15mins of full time.
