Stevenage (H)

Next up, I think.

Decent start for both teams. 1-1.

Aye piece of piss from Grantham on that line. Looking forward to that one, a new one to tick off but not expecting much from the town centre!

Town centre is shit for pubs, only one near the train station

Ground is about a 25 minute walk from there

Decent pubs in the old town but you're heading in the opposite direction from the ground

Do trains, in normal pre tory times, run on GF?

Good three points last night .Remember Oxford targeting our right side last season with arial bombardment of similar proportions & we lost 3-1 .

We are probably getting the breaks at the moment which helps , but you can’t fault the commitment of the players .Dempsey not at his best but ran himself into the ground , both Thomason & Iredale didn’t shrink from the challenge despite their bookings .

Our right -side didn’t really function attack wise & despite Jones ‘s limitations he does link up well with Cogley , Forrester is more defensive minded but can’t knock his performance overall.

The knocking it about at the back needs modifying as some of our current team don’t seem to comfortable with it .

Bod needs to start , at least we then have the option to play a bit longer & maybe a few passes might stick.Charles needs to play right on the shoulder of the defence , the deeper he comes for the ball the worse he gets.

So how do you explain the same cutting out problem when he's not "speaking too loud"? He wasn't shouting during the Franny Lee tribute. The fault is intermittent, regardless of his volume.

Something can be maintained to a legal standard and still not work properly.

Don’t want to sound a bit twatty, but to the trained ear he was talking WAY too loudly, even then. There will have been a set of little lights going nuts in the control room at that point. And, in this scenario, being maintained to a legal standard absolutely means it needs to be working properly as part of the Green Guide.

It didn’t fill me with encouragement when Holiday Inn only wanted about £50

No. Silly.

Every Bank Holiday they go on strike. Have for a decade & more.

Knebworth is in Stevenage

Very close. But strictly speaking it comes under North Herts District Council rather than Stevenage Borough Council. Used to work in that part of the world.

Great to get the win on the board last night. We've now got the same record as this time last season after 10 games:  6-2-2.

If I remember right it was the equivalent next two games in 22/3 (the 11th and 12th of the season) where we blew it at Cheltenham and then Forest Green.

Despite the delight at three points there are mixed feelings. So many injuries and suspensions and we got the win despite playing a team who've had a good start and play in a way that could have been specifically designed to disrupt our flow.

However - we made one hell of a meal of it. The result could easily have gone the other way and we didn't learn much we didn't already know about the team flaws and all.

Spoke to a couple of Oxford fans today and they said their boss Liam Manning specifically changed the way they played in their 1-3 win at Stevenage on Saturday. He set them up to counter what Stevenage do. Couldn't really imagine IE ever doing something like that.

The old town makes it sound like a worthy tourist destination 😀 away end looks a bit of a squeeze too, be a good day

Fascinating debate about the public adresss system. (I would say Tannoy but it might not be that brand name).

There is Harvester near the ground but not sure if it's home fans only

We could try and take it Bristol City style 😃

Fuck off Wanker  !

Yeah.

Walk past the first food place next to where you get in and walk along the front of the stand to the other counter which is usually empty. That's if you want food and drink obviously, no beer available.

They do have a Nandos very close by.

I used to have an annual discussion/argument with someone who had exactly the same problem with exactly the same system. Message would always be received and then come first home game, same again. Easily done in a noisy stadium but also easily fixed.

The only system aspect exposed to the elements is a big standard radio mic. Everything else has to be maintained to a legal standard.

Confirmation that it's an intermittent fault due to aging equipment...

https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/23851283.bolton-wanderers-look-improve-sound-system-toughsheet/

“It is a known issue,” he told The Bolton News. “It is intermittent as well, which doesn’t help. Sometimes it is fine, and I don’t think it is catastrophic at the moment, so let’s be pragmatic about it.

“To replace it would be a very significant spend for the club, a massive project, but it is something we are aware of and something we are looking at in detail.

“It is on the agenda but it will take time and I don’t think it is something that will happen between games, it will be quite a lengthy job.

“Like a lot of jobs in the stadium, it is something which is 20-25 years old, which hadn’t been addressed. And, frankly, something else comes to my attention every week like that."

Perhaps he talks too loudly into the microphone intermittently.

This tannoy chat is more like what I come on here for.

Is he speaking a bit too close to the mic...?

Odd isn't it. I still view it as pretty new !
