Interim manager Gary Mills has done a good job in the four games he's been in charge of Burton amassing 7 points with (surprise?) wins over Blackpool and Shrewsbury following a draw with Charlton after being battered by Oxford in his first game That's put them clear of relegation trouble for now.

As if we didn't know what to expect from Burton, I reckon we can double down on that now Mills has taken over as he's taken a struggling team and "gone back to basics".

Good article here on how he's going about turning the Brewers season around - a decent guide to their game plan - (don't faff about at the back - get it forward to Kamwa, Baah and Lubala to have a run at every opportunity and defend en masse when out of possession, with Brayford the anchor)

We should have enough to dominate possession and win - just need to keep an eye out for getting mugged on the break.

Half past 4 they opened,  served 2 purposes .

1) to let in any Bolton Combination or Lancs Amateur players that were playing locally the opportunityto watch at least some of the game . 

2) Before segregation to allow the Lever Enders a chance to walk round to the Embankment to meet and wave off any visiting supporters .

3) as a side note , when Sunday football matches started there was a "secret " free turnstile to appease the god botherers . Anyone remember the muppet with the hell and damnation placard outside the Embankment.

Last couple of away games have been behind the goal and low terracing/seating so a fucking terrible viewing angle.

Before my time so I’m only going by what I’ve read, but weren’t they ALL ‘free’ turnstiles, and admission was charged by virtue of selling programmes at what would be the usual gate price?

Tough game this after a hectic run. As much as I'm a Bod fan, bring Vic (and a few others) in for fresh legs. I'd also go with Iredale on the left CB spot as he's been decent enough there and allows Toal to get back on the right side CB spot.

Re: away fans. Having that big bank of away fans right at pitch side is definitely a help for the visiting teams. Hopefully we can get back to the Prem situation where they only get half of the south stand i.e. half the lower and half the upper. That would dilute the away atmosphere a bit to help us, but only realistic if we can shift enough tickets. Maybe a starting point would be splitting the lower in half at first next year and selling some season tickets there.

This is really a game we must win. By that I do not mean if we do not win the season is over, but with it being so tight at the top home games against teams in bottom half whilst other teams around are playing each other are the perfect ones to open up a bit of a gap.

Wont be easy, Burton picked up points recently and are basically solid. Hopefully we start fast and keep going !

As to today's game, we should win. Could well win comfortably but Burton will come with a plan to defend deep, try to frustrate us & go for a goal on the break.

So we need to be clinical with our early chances.

It was in the late 60’s and early 70’s . Used to go in with my cousins. It was how I first started to watch them. I seem to remember there was access to Manchester Rd terrace from the embankment, you had to pass a food kiosk. Although my memory could be playing tricks.

I prefer watching the game from the side, always have done for home games, but for some reason there's a better atmosphere for away fans when they are behind the goal (generally).  We've used it to crank up the atmosphere at places like Vale (another one I'd forgot above) and Lincoln, and it definitely impacts at our place when there's 4k or more behind the goal when the away team gets up a head of steam.  Not the same effect IMO at the likes of Ipswich, Norwich, Villa even if the numbers are similar.

No great surprises - should be good enough for 3 points today.  Bench starting to look a bit thin again when you consider only Iredale is missing from those we’re likely to have available for the busy schedule over next 4-6 weeks.  Looking vulnerable to a couple of injuries/suspensions so as I’m sure IE knows confirms we need 2-3 new faces in soon who could hit the ground running……
