I get the stat but it would be a crass error if it did happen. We have 7 options, one being a keeper doesn't weaken us.

Love Evatt, but going after the fans is pathetic. Yes there are always not rights at football fans, hardly the most intellectual set of supporters within professional sports. However, that's part

  • Evatt’s a stubborn bastard, a lot of the time it’s to his benefit and sometimes it’s not. Nobody is right all the time and one day it will bite him on his arse and I reckon he’ll have a keeper on

  • Charles to play the fucking role?

I'll tell you what got my goat aswell today and needs stamping out by red cards - we took a quick throw in but Cole threw another ball on the pitch to slow it down and make us re-take it.

Granted, it didn't stop a dangerous  attack but if all you get is a yellow, what's stopping anyone doing it to thwart a late attack

I'm going to continue to bang the risk-averse drum until I am eventually proven right in 2031

I’d prefer a keeper on the bench.  It would be a rarity for the sub keeper to be needed but in a tight promotion race it is not worth risking when you have seven subs.

I'd  have applauded if one of our lot did it. it was a creative shithouse tactic :D

Famous last words !

Good point considering the injuries at the back.

Collins looks a good un'

That cross looked just like SJMs for Coyle at Wembley.

That cross was excellent and Ashworth was both aware enough and brave enough to get on the end of it. Lad seems to be getting better.

Too many times today we had nobody brave enough to gamble to get on the end of balls across the box.

More SJM v Liverpool for Walker

Aye, time wasting, going down, feigning injury, slowing down, none of it ever bothers me because everyone does and time gets added on etc

That though, it was as blatant yet unique as it gets

I watch a lot of Atletico Madrid games. Simeone's masters of the dark arts. He has all of the ballboys/girls primed to throw a second ball on regularly when they are leading by one and not long left. Needs to be stamped on - I am not sure who the referee would brandish a card at though!

Hes been ok but he was crap today.

Really poor decision making.

Got better a bit when BodCol came on.

Agree.

Im not Maghomas biggest fan but he clearly has skill and talent but sometimes he just looks completely uninterested .  The biggest example was when dion was chasing a lost cause and managed to win the ball and break into the box near the goal line JDC was busting a gut to get to the far post and Maghoma was just dawdling forward instead of bombing into the box.

I had faith Jerome would be ample cover. To be fair though,7 subs, 1 has to be a keeper - the other 6 is over half a team ffs.

Anyway, made the mistake of looking at twitter and people slashing Bod, doesn't score or contribute etc.

Not sure who passed it to Collins to cross for the goal but he did ok

Twitter second only to the BEN comments section for rage inducing idiocy.

Makes me invest all my money in doing a Jay and Silent Bob.

I was thinking more SJM to Andy Walker at Anfield.

Damn.

Did anyone get the first train after the game and if so what time did it show?

Cba going back and checking so I apologise- anyone else notice Gethin Jones pic on the screen when we equalised?

Now, my eyesight is shot, but fuck me that must’ve been some header!

Your eyesight is perfect 👌

IAN Evatt felt more calm heads were needed – on and off the pitch – when Wanderers came under heavy pressure in the second half against Barnsley.

Trailing 1-0, Bolton struggled to get out of their own half after the restart with some big chances to double the lead falling for visiting strikers John McAtee and Devante Cole.

Frustrations surfaced in the crowd as the Whites continued to try and play their way out from the back and there were audible cheers when goalkeeper Nathan Baxter ushered his defenders away to take a longer goal kick to clear the pressure.

Wanderers did get back on level terms, Baxter starting a flowing seven-pass move that started with Baxter and ended with Zac Ashworth heading Aaron Collins’ cross in at the far post.

After the final whistle, the reaction from parts of the crowd was raised by Evatt in his post-match press conference.

“Let’s be mindful of what we are trying to do,” he told The Bolton News. “The way this team plays and the way we function needs confidence and belief. We need to be backed.

“I need to back them and make them feel confident, so do the fans. At times we did make the wrong decisions in possession, but I am sure we will learn from that.

“I think they got nervous and worried, it made it worse and we started making more mistakes and errors.

“Cheering kicking it long is not the right thing to do either.

“I think that plays into their hands with how dominant they are, physically.

“We all care, that is the most important thing. We want this so badly.

“That is a really tough game and they always make it really difficult for us. We have had a lot of disruption this week, some new bodies in there, new players learning a new way of playing. But I was delighted to get back into the game.”

Evatt felt his side should have been better in possession but that moving to a more direct style of play would have made life easier for Barnsley.

“That is what they want, they want turnovers,” he said. “It doesn’t help kicking it long, either. That is what they want too, because they are physical at the back.

“We want to pick our way through but we need support to be able to do that. We need everyone to be on the same page and I just don’t think it is helpful.

“We weathered that storm, rallied the troops and then took control of the game again and had probably the best moments with Paris (Maghoma) and Aaron (Collins), little bits of pressure.

“It was a good game and they are a good side. We are only going to improve from here.”

Didnt Coleman go off injured in one of the League cup games this season ? Luckily, Baxter was on the bench.

It shouldn’t even be a discussion about if you should’ve a goalkeeper on bench pure crazy

chances very slim of one getting used but with so many places on the bench you just don’t chance it

Would you still be of that opinion if it bites us on the arse in a promotion deciding game?.....It really is a totally unnecessary risk.

I agree entirely

That said I can only think of two instances where a player had to go in goal, SJM and Bo Hansen, think the latter would be because we'd made all our subs

Also recall Megson having two on the bench just in case

Who do we reckon would go in goal if we needed it?

I reckon Morley if he's on the pitch

Now the dust has settled on yesterday I’m absolutely delighted we got a point, they threw the kitchen sink and probably played us at the right time with injuries to key players, GJ unavailable and before our new signings have settled in and still failed to beat us, expect we get stronger from here on in, look forward to the match at there place, will be a different ballgame.

Personally I'd like to see a keeper there.

But I do get why he does it

- Its a gamble that works (so far)

- Coleman knows the score, his position as number 2 keeper isn't affected by not being on the bench

- An outfield player not making the playing squad is far more demoralising- keeping his squad happy is going to be a big factor these next few months

- His biggest argument will be that it gives him more options with 5 subs to affect/change the game.

Of course all that is countered should there be a keeper injury, but so far so good....
