Farrelli Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Best to get prepared for the play offs. Get through Saturday with no injuries and avoid defeat. Quote
Traf Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 On the face of things, Coventry stood little chance of making the FA Cup Final, but could win their last 4 league games and sneak into the play-offs. Should they have accepted a Wembley defeat before a ball was kicked and played a weakened team? Of course not, keep your eyes on the prize and whilst it's still there, you have to go for it. Play our best team and if Derby at 2-up at HT, we make 5 subs. Quote

The very point I made previously. As unlikely as it is, if they were drawing and the game ticks on, then there is the chance that subconsciously they start to settle for what they have. A risky mindset at that point. It makes our situation clearer though: just go and try to win the game. That's the only thing that gives us a chance, so there is no mixed thinking nor tactical approaches that can yield the same success. Quote

Whilst unlikely to happen, it could and if it does, folk are chasing Evatt out of town with pitchforks and torches. Whatever decision he makes, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't unless we get the ultimate prize. Quote

When any hope has gone, then protect 5 of our better players.......it could suit P/boro to have their reserve players steaming into us !! Quote

MickyD Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 It seems Derby are wary of Carlisle. They recognise that their better results come against the higher placed teams. [from https://dcfcfans.uk/topic/42836-peterborough-vs-bolton/] Quote Carlisle's results against the better sides are far better than those nearer the arse end where they've been bobbins. Won at Bolton, drew twice with Stevenage, win and draw against Peterborough, only lost by one at Portsmouth home and away. Need to play better than we did second half as they'll be loving a trip to Pride Park before they head to Hades in August. I feel we really need to push for a win. Only the best sides can want a draw and play for it. It takes a level of calculated ball retention we do not have. Quote The problem with offering opponents the opportunity to take a draw is that football is full of cheats, and nobody can be trusted. No disrespect to Carlisle specifically, or indeed their much respected manager, but they'd probably nick a winner in the dying moments, then point and laugh at us! Kill em off early I say. Win, win, and thrice win! Quote Great result and whilst the performance second half was a bit dire in general the effort and desire of the players was superb. Just check their faces at the final whistle- they were knackered and relieved. I expect Bolton to beat Posh and as we have seen sometimes this season, when the latter lose they can sometimes lose big. If we take this as job done already then we are fools. Carlisle are bringing a (for them) massive 2,000 to Pride Park and they are going to try and put on one last performance and claim one big scalp in the process. If we relax and they score and Bolton are also winning then that GD-winning thread is suddenly looking very thin and fragile. We need focus in this game and once again an early goal to settle things down. I say we go at them first half to try and put the game to bed early. I don’t want to see us trying to play out a draw. It’s just too risky. You can almost taste it- but we need one last push from the team and fans. Quote I expect one of Bolton or Peterbrough to win big next saturday, if posh lose in midweek i expect it to be Bolton, but if posh win their midweek game, they might just have one of thier days. I expect us to be bag of nerves being shredded by a nerve shredding machine as time ticks away at nil nil. I think we'll prevail, but i expect the absolute wringer before we do. Obviously, it'd be nice to blow Carlisle away and be 3 up by half time, but, that's not why we love Derby County. Quote A draw could mean we’re hanging on right to the end, I don’t think I could survive that 😱 Quote Pinched from the Posh forum, from a Bolton fan. Can you play the same team on Saturday please because if nothing else it will put the frighteners under Derby. Whilst it’s unlikely Carlisle will do them you just never know in football. We’ve all been there, games we needed to get a result in but the longer it goes the more the pressure increases. A 3-0 win for Wanderers against your reserves and Carlisle pop in a 95th minute winner would go down very well in North Lancashire. ? Meanwhile, in the real world. ………………….here’s Ferguson and Evatt! 👍😂 Quote Quoting Wanderlust A four goal victory bridges the seven goal swing required Warren - but it's irrelevant as Derby will not lose to Carlisle. Sure it will be a bit of fun for a while on the final day, but although most Rams fans on here are fairly sensible, they, like us, have their idiots and you really shouldn't encourage them by talking about our chances of replacing them in second. Let their idiots troll our idiots and leave them to it. The sensible Rams - and their manager - were gracious enough to recognise they were lucky to get the points against us to put them where they are so the least we can do is be gracious enough to accept our fate and focus on the our own games - and the fact that we actually threw away the title (and 20+ points) through poor performances against teams in the bottom half earlier in the season. Probably best just to say "well done Derby" and leave it at that. Quote

Jol_BWFC Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 My take on it: I wouldn’t play anyone who is injured or not 100% eg don’t rush back Santos if he’s not fully fit. I would start Dion, to get some more minutes into him. I wouldn’t rest anyone to save them for the play offs, as it would mean they’re going into the first leg having not played competitively for 2 weeks. In summary - play the strongest fit 11. Quote
radcliffe white Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Think people are getting giddy, no need to rip the side apart just rotate a few for obvious reasons Sheehan has been pivotal therefore I’m guessing he will be a marked man and likewise Charles who’s coming back from injury, don’t forget good chance we might play these at Wembley gloves off do what ever needs Peterborough will do Quote
Lt. Aldo Raine Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Imagine if we played a weakened team and Derby got beat Quote
JimmyRiddle Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Evatt has always been consistent in putting out strong teams in the cup, even int he early rounds, I don't think it's in his DNA to not want to win I'm sure he won't risk any 50/50s but also sure we will have a strong team out. If Derby 3 up at half time make those changes. Quote
noxid Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 Can't imagine playing any sport and not wanting to win. Quote

Sure there is the risk of injury, tiredness, suspension etc but there's always that risk. Plus it can be argued that going into the playoffs on a winning streak is a positive. Like I said on the Derby site, we just need to focus on our game and our results and I'm pretty sure Evatt will think the same. Quote
