Cheers for this. Looks like it was a pleasant day out in the sunshine. Not something I'd usually associate with that shit hole!

First day of the season in 96 was a scorcher there

Played in green shirts

Got promoted at the end of the season

Good work out

Mins in the bank for a few.....New Formation....Squad looks stronger week by week

Schon alluring fears i had as out and out winger

Nothing not to like about yesterday. Bring two more in who like Schon and Arfield will play more than they dont.

Add a couple of decent loans and maybe trim a few and i think we can have a decent season once more.

Grumbles over time to back Evatt once more and give him one last chance

Role on 5.30 next Saturday

If you can find odds for that let me know. I'll get on it too.

Cheers. Hope he progresses well this season, but didn't look great on those (albeit) brief highlights.
Taller/bigger than i expected, I thought he was small.

Tomo in midfield (scored in 96).  An exotic foreign signing none of us had heard of (Frandsen)

Good summary.  If Schon is the answer to the LWB issue, great, looking forward to seeing how that develops, difficult to assess until we have a spell "under the cosh" and we see what he can do defensively.

I feel we are short up front at least until CMG returns.  We've lost 2 reliable stand ins who could head a ball and hold it up (JDB and CJ) and at the moment I see the same problems of the front players getting knocked off the ball easily.  When we're defending and trying to clear our lines (the first time we are 1 up away from  home and bringing 10 or 11 back to defend corners), the ball simply doesn't stick, in those periods of play Charles & Collins just aren't physical enough, signing an alternative to JDB/CJ is a must IMO.  That's where friendlies don't offer any insight, we won't know about being under the cosh until we're 1 up in the 2nd half of a league game against a top half team.

Agreed hence why i think we will sign that Big lump who is good in the air be it Mcatee or another.....As you say it is something we do not have since we released JDB and CJ.

I have never got bringing everyone back for corners and never will

Johansen started as well IIRC so just need to sign another Hungarian now

Considering he's only been in the country 48 hours and trained with us once, Schon looked good on his debut. Energetic, got forward and wanted to attack a few times. Put in a big tackle in the first few minutes too which I hope was an example of him showing what he is about.

Indeed.   Was fakin roasting that day, their pitch looked like wembley 'old skool' and we were all excited to see the new signings.   Great days

1-1?

Yes, took the lead 1st half but ended up drawing.  Beat Man City 1-0 the following Tuesday, Frandsen announced his arrival with a cracking goal.

One thing about that season I'd forgotten about was that although we got 98 points, we didn't win a game from 2nd November till Boxing Day (8 games).  Natives were proper restless when we lost at home to Ipswich mid December, it wasn't all plain sailing.

Wasn’t the Vale game preceded by a meltdown over Curcic going to Villa?

Aye.

Slightly placated on first sighting of Johansen and Frandsen.

Yes most gutted I’ve been on a player leaving. Probably still is. Them 2 more than replaced him though.

There was a lot of disgruntled murmuring before the game with  Curcic being sold. Although we only drew that game we could all see immediately the impact of the Danes & the balance of that team , on what was day one.

Gloom & doom lifted immediately. Actually a pivotal game in our history,in which losing would have set the dogs after Todd who was being lambasted for selling Curcic. Good job he pulled out Frandson & Johansen out of nowhere.

Same to recall Johansen was the more expensive part of the deal. Think is was £2.25m for both and he was £1.5m of it

Defo the main chunk but I remember it as Frandsen being £350k and Johansen being £1.15m was a long time ago. We then had a look at his brother

I've got a Bolton shirt signed by his brother.

I was very pissed at the time (and yes, I knew it was his brother).
