3 games in and I’m just tired of it already. Tired of looking so impotent. Tired of the same players meandering through games making the same mistakes. Tired of there being no accountability from any

  • Did no one else get injuries? It’s a bit of a myth this hard luck story. Needs to get promoted in top 2. Nope Needs to win the play off as we will never have a better chance. Nope. Need

6 wins if you count the penalty shoot out against Mansfield

So 5 then 😀

If we'd lost on pens its still a draw in terms of how we've performed over 90 minutes against that team.

I consoled myself that I thought Mansfield looked half decent against us but they've been shipping goals in their 2 league games since, yet we never looked like scoring other than Tomo's wonder strike.

Starting to get a bit embarrassing now. The longer you spout this, the more you lose credibility. He was the young player of the season FFS.

If he's determined to stick with 5 at the back he has to go back to 5-3-2

Credibility!! 🤣 it’s aka to the Connell love in… the pair of them not all that.

Is McAtee ment to be a forward or a 10 or LF ... What is his position?

He's the weak link and why we're playing this shit formation.

I think you mean akin rather than aka. And I’m not going to go back and forth amy more because you’re so clearly wrong yet so blinkered that there is no point.

Yep no point.. let’s see what levels Maghoma achieves in the game.. lads got time on his side but needs to improve on loads of weaknesses.

He’s had a half decent spell at Barnsley and a decent one a few years back at Grimsby. Not convinced by him so far and hope he’s not the type of arrogant player that could destabilise the striking corner of the dressing room.

That’s fine. But then he has to give up on playing a front 3 who stay high the whole time. He can’t have both

I only watched the 1st half but I thought Collins came deep a number of times, once he was clearing the ball from the byline and at least twice he took the ball from near the edge of our area and started attacks effectively.  He looked good in that half, an improvement on his last few games, and a mistake from Santos shouldn't detract from it.  Tomo and Johnston also impressive 1st half.  But presumably the issue is we don't want a striker dropping to his own byline when we could have a defensive midfielder like Matete doing that role more effectively.  Round pegs in round holes once again an issue for IE.

Thomason was decent first half but couldn’t sustain it… no wonder given it’s only & Sheehan in midfield.

Collins or McAtee. Never both

When we signed McAtee I thought he was an upgrade on JDB, a bone fide centre forward.  Clearly not.  We now have no centre forward assuming Vic is out of favour/on his way.  Charles as the main central attacker?  Its bizarre.  Square pegs, round holes etc.

I agree before Christmas he wasn't anything special.  Our best midfielder by far 2nd half of season, but just my opinion, happy for anyone to have a different one.  I just don't see who is going to take a man on and create a chance and/or get a shot on target now.

The issue for me with having that front 3 isn't so much that they're staying high, more that two of them (Collins and McAtee) are spending too much time with their back to goal, getting involved in non threatening play around the half way line. Only Charles is happy to play on the shoulder and rarely gets a ball played through to him quickly enough to exploit that.

L1 defenders don't like being run at, turned or having to deal with balls over and round them. We rarely make those L1 defenders jobs as difficult as they ought to be. If anything, the current formation is restricting the impact of the wing backs and we've seen fewer occasions where either of them have got far enough up the pitch to get crosses or shots in.

It doesn't help either that we've half a dozen strikers on the books but none of them have the inclination to put themselves into the six yard box corridor where goals aplenty are scored.

I'm trying to think why we'd change our whole system to fit him in.

I'm not saying he's shite btw ... but we need to play 2 of him, Charles, Vic and Collins.

Said it before. We're not seeing Evatts grand plan, he's ditched it whatever it was.

All ore season we've been training without Mcatee, then soon as he's bought there happens to be "plan b", changed the whole team to fit him in, and it doesn't make sense.

All pre season we were hoping for a "midfield bastard" instead we've ended up with one less.. that "pass" from GT that went from one wing, to a throw in on the opposite side sums up our game.

What can I say, I told you people the problem was IE over 2 seasons ago.

Sorry if i sound like a phallus but it's annoying to see people parrot analysis I did back then as if it's a revelation.

Slate the manager dead early.

Hold on.

Time will prove you right.

Claim you are Nostradamus.

Rinse and repeat.

Only time you get caught out is when it's Bruce or Big Sam.

So probably 60%+ of the time.

If you could have that succes rate in the markets you'd be living on a yacht.

Easy peasy.

Just about calmed down. I wish losing didn’t ruin the rest of the day like it currently does. Maybe something I will grow out of in the future. Anyway, my thoughts on today: Charlton were very good in terms of defensive shape, they contained us and stopped us creating any clear-cut chances. It was really congested in the middle and we rarely got in behind them. Once again I thought our attacking threat down either wing was severely lacking. Charlton weren’t brilliant going forwards but they didn’t need to be and still created two clear-cut chances (the second goal and Aneke’s header). Both goals were self inflicted and the fact we are making so many individual errors at the back is very worrying. Our form in 2024 as a whole has been poor and needs to improve if we are to achieve promotion. 12 wins is 33 games in all competitions is nowhere near good enough.

Not reading any of the above. I already know what will be said by the negheads.

The last time we won this division, we lost 3 of our first 7 games. No need for panic just yet. Still think IE should have gone at the end of last season. There's a nagging doubt that he may have reached the limit of his capabilities.

If FV thought he deserved another chance then who are we to argue? He'll either turn it around or be gone by Christmas.

Before the goal I was thinking he was looking like his old self, winning all his challenges like swatting flies and one outstanding recovery tackle.  And his passing was faultless, then that, inexplicable in both intention and execution.  How he manages to turn it into an argument with Baxter is baffling.  We are miles from being successful if passes like that are part of our tactic and game plan, its like playing with one hand tied behind our back, giving the opposition an opportunity they don't have to earn.

I've never really get the logic, does this way of playing really allow us to create more chances at the top end of the pitch?? It never seems to as we so slow, most teams have their box packed by the time.qw get there anyway!

He is deluded, the risk v reward just isn't there.

How long before Sharon accepts that her strange  decision not to sack Evatt after Oxford wasn't the correct decision?

I agree with this. The end product wasn't as good as it should have been and of course when Bolton had to win the last 4 matches to finish 2nd he was part of the midfield that flopped and only drew the first two home games.

I think I've just lost faith. Oxford was abject and consistent with how we've performed in big games. Evatt has had great backing wrt to the level the club is at and brought in players in the summer who have excited the fanbase. I believe he's on record as saying 433 is his favoured formation, well fucking try it then. I really don't feel like I know better but the start to this season (4 games in) just feels the same. Someone suggested a back 4 that seemed sensible (Johnston, Santos, Toal, Tu-tu), I'd then try a midfield 3 that can accommodate Sheehan and Matete, with Vic up top allowing  Collins and McAtee to play either side. Sure it may not work but it seems to at least fit the players we have. First time I've ever criticised Evatt publically, hope he shoves it right back down my throat.

Is Ashburner Street Market Fish Stall Face going?

Yep ,in fine form

Our 4th season in the 3rd division, with the same manager; we really shouldn't be having these conversations.

For me Collins, Charles, McAtee aren't exceptional enough to play as a front 3. Playing a front 3 means losing a player in midfield and Sheehan/Thomason defnitely can't cover the extra work load.A more sensible manager would be playing 4-3-3 if shoehorning the 3 strikers in but neither a midfield 3 nor front 3 are promotion winning standard from what i've seen.Collins is the best attacking player at the club and then it should be 1 up front with him.
