Alf Hartigan Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Looking at arsenals subs tonight. Reckon that’s pretty much what we will face next week. Not all 12 of em from the off obviously. Quote

Ani Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Think they will rest plenty of players. Be interesting who we play, for some players might be only chance they get to play at such a ground when it is hopefully nearly full so think we go full strength, although early kick off Saturday does not help.(and shows how fucking stupid early kick off really is) Quote
Zico Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 We need confidence and belief so full strength and try to play the game our way Quote
RUREADY2ROLL Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Will Trossard miss our game our their next league game? Quote

matty2094 Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Randell for Schon, maybe Demps for Matete (who I thought was poor yesterday) I would say take Rico out of the firing line for a game in favour of Forino but I think he's an Arsenal fan so that would further compound his misery Quote
TrickyTrotter Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Think red cards are now tournament related so presumably Trossard plays on Wednesday. Southwood, Williams, Forino (for GJ), Dempsey, Collins and McAtee in for us. Quote
radcliffe white Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Crawley must be priority rotate the pack Quote

Maybe just if Johnston was rested, as he's the only left footed CB. There have been times when we've been afraid of one of our players getting injured as he'd be very hard to replace (Maghoma, Bradley, Dapo, Collins, Santos, Baxter, Charles at various points over the last couple of years arguably). Not the case now, the bench is generally strong and we don't really have a stand out player. Quote

For me albeit it one game we’ve found a winning way so no need to jeopardise anything, plenty will be chomping at the bit Quote

For me it suggests a performance was near to perfect, we know it was far from that. One example would be that I thought Dempsey was a significant part of us seeing out the game at 4-2, making us more solid and scoring a goal. Matete had a shocker in comparison and Dempsey looks like an upgrade currently, without his impact last 20 odd minutes it wasn't a given that we won that game. But yes whoever plays in either game should be busting a gut to keep hold of their place if nothing else. Quote
Ani Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 If a team goes in 4-1 up at half time you would be disappointed as a player not to keep your place for next game. I agree with others that Matete was probably our worse player yesterday as took too long on the ball numerous times but he was part of the team that got us off to such a good start. Quote
Take Hunt Off Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Mattete lost the ball three times around our penalty area yesterday , last week he was the best of a bad bunch , probably why he’s on loan to us .Inconsistent. Santos’s body language was all wrong yesterday , he barely celebrated our opening goal & was sluggish & indecisive. Wrong reaction to losing the captaincy. Still our best defender though just needs to sort his head out . If playing against Arsenal doesn’t bring back his focus don’t really know what will. Quote
Wanderlust Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Matete lost the ball trying to break their lines on a couple of occasions which is theoretically a good thing but it's dangerous in a tight area with opposition players around. He has good close control but he ain't Foden and although he succeeded in doing it in his earlier games and burst through to create an attack from defence, he got caught out on Saturday. Excellent if it comes off but risky if it doesn't. Wouldn't surprise me if he was doing it under instructions as it typifies Evatt's whole approach - high risk football. I don't like us playing out from the back in general and trying to dribble out of defence is particularly nerve wracking but TBH Evatt has to try things like this rather than hoofing it up to the opposition's big CBs which opposition teams have being trying to force us to do with their press since January. If we are going back to 352 or whatever it is we have to try new ways to to break the press and avoid being forced into hoofing it. I have no problem with Matete trying to do this as long as there is cover as there was against Reading. Quote
