Personally, mines a bit shit and kind of a source of upset.

I’m born and bred in LH- the owd fella from Odsall and a proper red- his cousin won the league with Utd before signing for Liverpool a few years before Munich. He had me when when he was older, and refused to take me to a game because of hooliganism in the 80s… a matter of mine was going watching Bolton v Northampton in 87 (I think), and I tagged along- depriving my dad of the privilege of taking his only son to his first football game- he later took me to Man Utd v Red Star Belgrade and the old Soccer Sixes, but part of me is sad about that. I knew I’d never let that happen to me.

My eldest first game was v Palace when she was 4- bought her a shirt and a ball and we had a kickabout on the concourse. All going swimmingly until she asked if she could play on the ‘field’. I explained it wasn’t for children… we then walk out with 11 mascots!! She asks why they are there, I further explain it’sa very rare and these are special children…

but I’m special daddy?

Can’t win… I’ve asked her if she needs a wee every ten mins before kick off, she says no… until 3 mins after kick off… I take her down and we score the only goal in a 1-0 win moments later… fuming

The youngest was a distant kettle of fish altogether- day before his second birthday I jibbed him in, was obsessed- daddy, Bolton badge, daddy Bolton badge everywhere he looked

we beat Stoke 5-0 and he was fucking hooked- had we lost 5-0 I doubt he’d be playing today, was a perfect storm of atmosphere, birthday and performance

My first Bolton game was at home to Wolves in division 4.

A 1-0 win thanks to a John Thomas penalty.

The away end was empty as wolves fans were banned because they’d been very naughty boys up in Scarborough amongst other places.

it was not a game you’d think would turn a young lad away from the glitz and glamour of division one, with its 50k crowds and superstar names.

But there was something magical about Burnden park. The old girl was shabby as fuck even then with a monstrous growth on her north west quarter and swathes of empty seats behind the other goal.

but it just stank (literally) of football. Of community, felt like everyone knew each other and even though there were probably only 4/5000 on, the crowd was way better.

I started going with my school mates not long after. They ripped me a new one for having been dragged to the other place, but I didn’t care. I was in love.

Apparently it was Shrewsbury at home when I was 3 or 4 which will have been 87ish. Can't remember it and I'm sure my Dad will have got it wrong anyway :)

My earliest actual memory is going to Wigan away midweek and Steve Thompson met us outside and gave us tickets for the seats.

He was my brothers footy coach at the time and he used to sell knock off designer stuff out of his boot at is w bed semi on Warley Road in Blackpool.

Imagine that now :D

Ben Marshall used to sell knock off goods cos nobody would suspect a footballer of wearing snides- made a fortune selling it to teammates for their wives 😂

They’ve been at it for years those pesky footballers. Nicky Sumerbee used to go to Thailand with a couple of boxers and bring 100s of Louis Vuitton bags back then sell it on to other players.

I used to supply a lot of the mid 90s squad with (off the back of a truck) electrical items 😉

I’ve had season tickets for mine now for the last 4/5 years. They genuinely hate going to the game, I’m sure they would rather stay at home and clean their room. I manage to blag the youngest with the promise of meeting lofty (again) and once that novelty has worn off it’s a case of “I need a wee” or “I want to go home”

He'll be BWFC for evermore now... and you could get done for child abuse! 🙂

Won't be any consolation but my first ever BWFC match was a home match with a 0-4 scoreline.

My psychiatrist says this BWFCOCD condition I have will pass.
