The owners must look at the attendance and atmosphere yesterday and realise Evatt needs to go. It just pointless keeping him on now. Some proper over dramatic stuff and ignorance of history regarding atmosphere and results/performances against Burton to back a negative narrative about Evatt. Out of the other 11 times we’ve played them, under 4 different managers in the last 10 years, which one has had a better combined result/performance with a fantastic atmosphere? Probably the 2-1 in 2022 - but that required a last minute goal. Point being we’ve never rolled these over in front of a massive and excited crowd Edited October 20, 2024 by desperado Quote
Wanderlust Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Whilst it’s true Burton are now propping up the league, I thought Sweeney was outstanding, and like all teams in the division it’s just not enough to turn up expecting to beat them - if you have better players they have to prove it on the day because Burton won’t just roll over for anyone. Tactically, Evatt just about got it right and if he rested George for the Brum game rather than him being injured it was a masterstroke - although the gaping hole he left in midfield was largely responsible for their goal. That and JDC not putting his clearance behind for a corner which he could easily have done. Not sure why there are so many ridiculous expectations for this squad being bandied about but personally I’m not worried about our league position as yet and Brum away is a free hit against superior opposition. Difference being I looked over and I’ve never seen 15 people all on their phones like they are in a WhatsApp group. The nature of the game and opponent have absolutely played a part in it. Though I stand by my original point of everyone is waiting for him to fall (whether it’s right or wrong is a different point) He won’t turn it round. Quote
marple whites Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 4 wins out of 5 no matter the opposition is decent. look at where we sit in the league and we are only 3 points less than 2 a game and everyone is saying we have had a bad start ! charlton and Stockport are both crowing how well they have started and we are level with them ! free hit Tuesday and then 4 other quite big games. Let’s see how we are after those. burton has always been a bit of a bogey team, they bring naff all so nothing to bounce off for the fans. 3 points, next……. Quote

I think folk are either in your category. Or like me, they’ve been nicely surprised at our form and turnaround since Huddersfield, knowing that the bigger tests are just round the corner and that anticipation is one of hope that this can translate into something bigger/better - I suspect that’s the reason why over 2000 will be going to Birmingham Tuesday. Amazing turn out for a Tuesday night game. Let’s hope your all rewarded. Was only saying this is an odd feeling to win and take 13 from 15 and feel a bit miffed. Most I discussed it with simply agree it feels like a purgatory/waiting game and we can’t kick on till a change is made. These are the games that will show it to be fair. If we come through then I’ll be the first to call myself a clown. If we don’t then a change needs making and another season doesn’t need to go down the toilet. Quote

Said a few weeks ago these Cambridge and Stevenage rearrangements will either help Evatt or spell the end for him. By the end of November we’ll either be up there challenging with the good run of form continuing, having navigated some very tricky fixtures.. Or we’ll have a new regime in because your point will have been proven. We’d still have 6 months and points on the board to make something happen. So I’m seeing positives both ways 😂. But I’m hoping and praying for the first scenario Edited October 20, 2024 by desperado Quote
desperado Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Didn’t pick up on it yesterday and had to search it out this morning. George Johnston captain. is that 4 since Santos? Tommo, Toal and Dempsey? (has Dempsey had the armband??) Quote

The reaction to 13 from 15 has been tempered by the opposition and the Villa debacle in the middle. Burton yesterday were not the shit houses of the past but were really poor, but their guy cleared one of their shots off the line or we go one down. We then played quickly twice in 5 minutes go 2 up and it should be a stroll instead we have the return of comedy defending. The change back to two in midfield yesterday was baffling, for 15 minutes at start it was working and maybe if we scored early game is different. For about the 4th season running I do not think anyone knows our best 11, up front that is because we have lots of options, midfield we are very short and at the back injuries mean we have JDC playing as a centre half. But if everyone is fit... keeper is fine, Scone is fine, GJ starts for me but if Toal and Gethin are fit IE has picked them both ahead of him, Santos is a must start for me but people keep saying he is shit ! Midfield assume we play 3 normally so Captain Legohead, Sheehan and Dempsey, but if he fucks about with 2 in there could be anyone. Only Matete and Arfield to back up unless you class Lolas and CMG as midfield players Upfront perm any 2 or 3 from 6 or 7 Quote
Matt Lofthouse Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Very strange flat atmosphere yesterday, Williams turned it for us with his quick throw and well taken goal. Pleased for him as he’s had stick previously. Right in the mixer now, a point Tuesday would be great then go again on the Saturday against posh. Quote

Yeah I was watching Sweeney and he was fuming with himself for switching off momentarily for the throw in. He'd mis-cued his header for the throw in and was annoyed with himself and by the time he'd switched on Collins was 2 yards behind him. Just shows at this level it's the mistakes that kill teams. Overall Burton tried some nice stuff too. Their number 7 especially looked like he belonged in a better team, and actually would have scored in the first half if Bennett hadn't stopped it on the line! Was a more enjoyable football match than we're used to against these. Just didn't bode that well for us that it was that close a contest. Quote
Arrested development Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I think Randall on the right worked well as he can come inside on his left foot, as he did for the goal. I think away from home though, don't know if it would work aswell. Not sure it's the right move against Brum but we will see what Evatt does. The response to the bad start to the season has been good, yesterday we looked dominant for most of the game, but we need to stop giving shit goals away. Quote
frank_spencer Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Obviously only seen the YouTube highlights but the most important part of the game is the win. Be it a ground out win or a dominant one the end of the day we've another 3 points in the bag. Huddersfield was an unacceptable performance but fair play to IE we've turned it round since then Quote

Lt. Aldo Raine Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I can only offer this as my opinion, but the points return from the past five matches should be around the minimum expectation of a club in our position and with our stated aims (promotion) It's the next run of fixtures that will determine whether Evatt has really turned things around Quote
Popular Post kent_white Posted October 20, 2024 Popular Post Posted October 20, 2024 Shite game but we ground it out. Young lad had an amazing time as Mascot. If you've got a kid and can afford the (what I think is very expensive) price then go for it. Brilliant experience. Even for to meet Super John and am now the proud owner of a Dan Nlundlu match worn shirt (I'll start the bidding at £100). Little lads face as is walked out with Dion Charles was worth the money alone. PS - I don't know what our kit man's called - but he's an absolutely lovely bloke and was brilliant with the kids and let them press their favourite players numbers onto their match shirts for the day. Everyone at the club was a credit. Fantastic day! 👍 Quote
Lt. Aldo Raine Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I think our kit man is Paul Moulden's son I can't remember his first name Quote
bolton va va Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I thought we were very good for the first 20 mins & if we'd scored then we'd have walloped them ( fair play to their centre half Sweeney who played well & some desperate last ditch blocks ) but it petered out a bit & we had to grind the win out.....no problem with that. The team selection was horses for courses not expecting much from Burton in midfield & when they rallied after their goal we put the extra man in midfield which shored us up, both Arfield & Matete did a good, sensible job. I'd be very surprised ( & dismayed !! )if we start with the same set up at Brum. & again, Charles didn't look the same player without Vic, for me, Vic & Charles should still be the first choice front 2. MOTM Dempsey with credit to Randell as well. Quote

I sent the club an email to pass our thanks on to him, but never got a response. Quote

I always imagine kit men to be old fellas for some reason? Anyway - nice to know we have some fantastic people working at our club. And the players were great with him too! I'm even more full of love for the club than I've ever been! 👍 Quote
