Sometimes you have to win ugly, but that was Sonia Jackson ugly.

Funny thing is, I think I’ve been to all the Burton games (bar one) home and away and they’ve all been the same.

I’m going to throw the 1-1 in a couple of seasons ago as a competitor, but I think that’s our best performance/result.

Anybody else doubting that?

Sometimes you’ve just got to find a way to win against shit opposition.

Big shift away from the old Burton, and played a bit of football rather than launching long balls, still had that shithousery about them though, but we ground it out, and saved some energy for Tuesday with the subs, so 3 points closer to the top 6.

Whatever team or formation we play. It absolutely must have Dempsey up the pitch pushing on from midfield. With 2 behind him so he doesn’t have to have the handbrake on like today.

I'd written Dempsey off after doing fuck all last season

But he's our best performer this season

Except for his shot today that landed in the empty upper tier

And Schon is getting better with each game

Nice to see stubborn Evatt who won’t change and adapt, change our defensive set-up on corners and have some players covering the edge of the box 😊

Although on one corner I did ironically think we didn’t have enough in the box and it left a couple of their big lads to rise and win a header.

Just goes to show you can’t cover every eventuality.

But I’m only marginally qualified and haven’t really studied this in depth enough to know the negating and influencing factors of defending corners.

I noticed this too. Much better use of zonal defending to cover the full box and edge of the box.

I'd also argue they you leave 1 man up on the half way line and the opposition need to leave 2 back and therefore avoid any overloads in the box.

Today was the first time this season that I actually got to see us score and win at home. Before it was 0-0 Wrexham, 0-2 Exeter, then 0-4 Huddersfield. So personally I was just delighted to see us score and win!

The common denominator I found in all of those games and today is we actually start relatively well and positive and look the better side.

And in those games, after 20 minutes or so the tide changes, we don't score, we get frustrated and then that theme usually continues and we likely concede a goal.

We're massively reliant upon momentum I think more so than other teams. When we go ahead we can look unplayable, when we go behind, we hardly ever come back, especially in the big games. This is a big issue under Evatt's tenure.

It was different today, I don't think despite all the doom and gloom of this season we have played that badly in most of our games.

Even the embarrassment of the Huddersfield game, it was very even until they opened the score right before half time then they got a penalty and game over.

I think our downfall mostly is not putting away our chances when we are on top and then making detrimental errors leading to conceding poor goals with no way back.

Unfortunately that's a recipe for disaster.

Today we still saw signs of the same but I'm hoping after our recent improvement in form that we can continue to improve from here.

Because we really need to, as our real test starts on Tuesday night.

I think most of us fans won't be swayed over until we start to see us perform in the bigger games and they're coming.

In a way, I think the next 5/6 league games will define Evatt's legacy.

Birmingham away

Peterborough home

Stevenage away

Stockport away

Rotherham away

Blackpool home

Genuine question,

Why is it ok to grind a win against Brum and not worry about a performance but it’s not against Burton?

appreciate we could’ve played better today but don’t get why it’s different for different opposition?

we shouldn't have to grind a win at home to Burton.

Happy for a win against anyone, but a decent performance against Burton might give a bit of hope we can get a result against someone less shit.

Our 5 wins this season have come against teams in the bottom six. Important run of games coming up now. Should give us a better picture of where we're at / heading.

Yep, come out of that lot with 12 points and I'll start backing Evatt again. Till then, like most of the rest of the stadium, I will be silent.

Agree on that. Someone made a great point today that Dempsey hasn’t played with a broken back or a court case till now. First name on the team sheet for me.

Maybe, possibly. Absolutely.

but we’ve been underdog for years, that’s us, we excel at it.

I do think, my opinion, we think we are much better than we are currently.

we’ve won today, we complain at winning when not at our best.

im as disappointed as everyone at the performance but we won.

Agree a wins a win. Sooner he goes the better. He’s lost the stadium. He won’t turn around. Anyone that was there can argue All they want.

Sooner we make the plunge. Promotion is very much on sir

I've never heard "he's lost the stadium" before but it sums up the current position well.

The owners must look at the attendance and atmosphere yesterday and realise Evatt needs to go. It just pointless keeping him on now.

You're right, I think some of the reservations about us having properly turned a corner are rooted in us not even having looked convincing in a few of the sort of games where we usually show our flat track bully tendencies.

This set of six games will very much show us where we're really at by the time the Xmas decs are going up. We could of course have a good run and win 3 or 4 of them, we could be win 2 draw 2 lose 2 and be neither here nor there, or not win any and Sharon & co have a decision to make.

massive disparity in budget, none of their lot would (normally) make our bench, their appalling current form, presumably rock-bottom confidence ...

It's the sort of game should normally be a walk in the park for us. It wasn't. Doesn't make a jot of difference to how many points we got, but concerning given the tougher tasks ahead.

We all (most?) felt we needed to improve this season. So far we seem to have gone backwards.

Big run of games now that could either kick-start our season or show how far off the pace we really are.

Hoping for the former, suspect it'll be the latter.
